Do these valves look ok (pitting)?

Have recently bought another Evo 3 which had a blown headgasket and broken water pump among other things. Anyway, I started cleaning the head up today. Still need my machine guy to take a straight edge to it and make sure it's good though. Got around halfway cleaning the head and it's coming up nicely. Did notice some pitting on the exhaust valves (I think they're the exhaust ones... I don't really have any clue what I'm doing!). Have read this could have been caused by the headgasket going and water boiling in there. Do they look like they can be reused though? I'm certainly hoping so - I can spend a little money on the car but my funds are limited so only want to replace what I have to.

Thanks for that. Nice to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about (i.e. not me!). Is valve work a simple job or could it be expensive?

They are indeed exhaust valves my friend. And you can clean that crap off with an abrassive wheel and reuse them if they seat ok still. I never reuse exhaust valves after I had to pull my head off my geo 3 times to replace each exhaust valve one after another. Never know when one has crack. Get it pressure tested.

Normal but if you want the head to be 100% again have the head sent to the shop to have the seats and valves re cut.

200$ would get the head back to like new again

Pressure tested... God knows if anyone can actually do that here in Okinawa! Will have a word with the only engine builder here in Oki I trust and see what he has to say.

Cheers for the advice. It's nice to be getting back into the 4G63 game after an 18-month absence.
