ok i have a big 16g and a 255hp that i am about to put on. and i am planning on buying 550cc injectors and dsmlink later on. On the upgrade path from here it says nothing about FPR and on RRE upgrade path it says nothing so do i really need one because if not i am going to buy a fmic. I need to know if i really need one and what would give me more hp for the time being. thanks

You will need an AFPR for any fuel pump larger than a 190lph. ImportEvolution sells a "bolt on" AFPR for like $155, plus the cost of a mounted fuel pressure gauge. Not a bad price. With the setup you're running, it would be extremely risky to run w/o an AFPR.

Ok so is what needs to happen is my fuel pressure to drop because it will be to high with the pump or it wont be a true 1:1 so it needs to go up? and if it needs to go down does that FPR adjust lower or just higher?

You want to get an AFPR that adjusts both up and down w/ a 1:1 ratio. Aeromotive makes a unit (#13109) that is a bit more pricey than the ImportEvolution I listed earlier, but is a great AFPR for our cars. I am not sure what the stock fuel pressure is on a 2g turbo, but a 1g turbo is approx 36-38psi. A 255HP fuel pump will outrun the stock FPR very quickly, and you will need an FPR that will accomodate higher fuel pressure.

With a large fuel pump on your stock fuel pressure regulator, you won't be able to maintain the base fuel pressure of 37 psi. The diaphragm inside the stock regulator is too small for a fuel pump that large and the base pressure will be too high. You'll have poor fuel economy, it will be nearly impossible to tune your car for proper partial throttle operation, and if you try to get the car tested for emissions, it'll fail. It'll run without an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but it won't run like it's supposed to.

so are you saying to go with the first one for $155 or the second for $190?

That's up to you. Both would be acceptable to use w/ your setup, but the Aeromotive is a more popular unit. I was just giving you some options :thumb:
I use the Aeromotive myself, but I've also heard good things about the IE unit.

thanks man thats a big help i am just wondering why RRE or DSMtuners upgrade path says nothing about them? i mean RRE even says if you up grade only the pump on 93 octane you can run 18lbs on a upgraded turbo and 22lbs on race gas with only a pump upgrade no injector or FPR upgrade.

Well, they were probably thinking one of two things...

#1: AFPR upgrade goes without saying (i.e. they assumed that any supporting mods would have been taken care of already if you were upgrading the pump)

or

#2: that you upgraded to the 190lph pump, which does not require an AFPR.

For example, the Tech Guide here on DSMTuners mentions upgrading to the 190lph pump.

i have a second gen with 510's and fp28 stock fpr and fuel pump 100 octane running 21psi with no problems

The question was about running aftermarket fuel pumps. You have the stock fuel pump, which wouldn't facilitate the need for an AFPR.

And at 21psi, I would imagine the need for an aftermarket fuel pump isn't far in your future

Just because you CAN do something doesn't always mean you SHOULD.
