Difficulty Timing 2g w/1g cas

Following the instructions in the thread I attempted timing. I cannot get an accurate reading from the logger, it states: IGN ADVANCE_24 degrees. At idle. The timing gun is about 5-6 degrees advance via the plastic shield. Grounding out the blue plug on the firewall only shut 2 cylinders off. Trust the gun?

Also, I have this very loud wooshing under boost that was not there before. Did a boost leak test and the only leak is the O ring in the throttle cable assembly on the TB. I don't think that is the culprit because it is VERY loud. Louder than the intake, and 3" exhaust, and as I said, it wasn't there before tampering with timing..
Any help is appreciated...

I just did mine, i just hooked the light up and turned the cas till it was on 5 degrease on the cover. I didnt ground out the plug, is it really needed?
