Hey i got a CEL and i ran a obII reader. and came up with a fuel pressure solenoid. now, i went to my local dealer, and they coudnt find a FPS... they said they found a emmissions solenoid. The part number was md126455 or md113721 (he gave me two dif. part numbers cause one includes the bracket to hold it on. )

Now my question is, what is the stock part # for a FPS. Is it the same as what they are describing to me.

Also, what is the effects of a bad fps, could it do harm? dump too much fuel into the engine? im not familar with solenoids, so any help would be greatly appriciated.

i dont know the part #. are you saying they could not find the fuel pressure control silinoid? or is there 2 pressure silinoilds. its right their on your filrewall, next to your brakes master controle silinoid.. one vac going to the intake manny for absolute pressure and i forget where the other one goes. its the last little silinoid on the drivers side compartment with that nob that looks so much fun to turn.

and what it is for is hot starts...ie cruising around all day, pull in to store for a minute or two, then go back out and start the car. it normally reads the intake pressure/vac and adjusts the fpr. however, when the ecu sees the engine is at a high enough temp it sends a signal to open to atmosphere to raise the pressure of the fpr so the fuel does not vaporise in the rail.

Yea, i know all that already, what im asking is, can it also be called a "emissions" solenoid, as the dealership put it? Also, i found a pic of the fps, from :

And i went to the dealership and asked them for a fps. and they said they didnt know what it was. so i went outside and showed them on my car. they went inside and on the computer they had a pic of the same thing pointed to in the pic on the site above. but it was called a emissions solenoid. is it the same thing? im guessing it is, but i wanted to make sure first.

I have no idea what that particular person in that partucular dealership knows about 90s DSMs. But, i can garantee you that he didn't come over from the service department... i've been to the dalership and have even showed the part i've wanted directly from the 1992-1994 mitsubishi Factory Service manual published by Mitsubishi and the've looked at me dumbfounded :notgood:  WTF .

As for the running rich part. A "stuck" FP Solenoid has been known to cause a DSM to run rich at idle and lean at WOT. OR caused it to not start easily soon after a shut off. Depending on whether the solenoid is stuck open or closed.

P.S. All i can say is, if that dealership is the only game in town, order the part and see if it has THREE (3) vacuum ports on it. If it does, then it is the one you want  If it does not then invoke their return policy on the spot and tell then that they should know better, they SELL f******* mitsubishis!
