Hey all,

I have been reading about nitrous applications and a lot of what I can find seems to be turbo related. I wonder if I can get some definitive clarification on some nitrous questions I have.

First, The motor will be built(top end and bottom end)(this will stay a non turbo vehicle). This will be a direct port setup. My questions are:

I have read and understand that there are adjustments that need to be made to both spark plugs and timing. I am wondering what happens with these adjustments in timing and plugs when I am not on the bottle? I will be driving this car as a DD in the summer and taking it to the track on weekends. I'd rather not tune it every weekend when I will be on the bottle vs. when I drive it to work.

I will be upgrading both my fuel injectors and fuel pump. Is there a fuel management system necessary? Or can I just increase the flow of fuel capability and call it a day?

Are there any pre-fabbed intake manifolds that already have direct port nitrous bungs pre-welded in? I scoured the internet but was unable to find one for a 420A.

Again, looking to be just a regular daily driver during the week with standard bolt ons (but a built engine with 10.5 compression)that can run a 150+ DP nitrous on the weekends.

You won't find much info on this because it's not the best way or easiest thing to make happen. Besides the cost of doing this you could just go turbo and not be filling a bottle every weekend. You would have to get something to tune your car to adjust timing and spark. And nitrous is not efficient which any little thing that goes wrong can damage your motor. I've heard of people having there manifold straight blow off the head because of a backfire. Definitely dangerous if not done absolutely correct. With high compression and nitrous it's even harder to get it tuned in and a lot of people will suggest not to do it on our motors. It's not a very thick block compared to others that run nitrous on a track like domestics. You would have to modify a manifold to work with your set up most likely. There's no market for nitrous set ups with a 420a thus being why you see more turbo info and kits out there. I'm sure it's possible but your better off talking to a shop that deals with what you want to do.

For spark plugs start with 1 heat range colder and you may need to go even colder if you start running a large shot.

You will need to run a Wet shot so you shouldnt have to worry about tuning your fuel setup to much if you have the right jets installed. You will need a way to pull back timing some when your on the bottle. The easiest way is to run an MSD DIS 2 ignition module, this will give you a way to retard timing while on the bottle only. You could also run Megasquirt but that may be more than you need for this build.

You will probably need to upgrade the fuel pump to a 190 but dont change the injectors.

I dont remember seeing any off the shelf manifolds that have bungs also installed for nitrous. That will probably have to be a custom job

Awesome! Thats good information. By the by, does anyone know the current record for fastest 2GNT on the bottle(sans turbo)?
