Is it that easy?

I was sitting here thinking about my car, and though my sig says otherwise, I am tired of being stuck with a 1.8 SOHC talon and not able to put any performance parts on it.

Like many of the others, I read articles about turbo conversions, engine swaps and what not. But most parts come for the 2.0 DOHC.

I am a learner with cars, and I was talking to my mom's boyfriend who knows a lot about car care and what not. He heard me having a hissy fit because I was on an endless quest to get the itty bittyest out of my 1.8 sohc.

I told him I wished that I had the dual, and he told me that I could just get the dohc box and its components from another car or junkyard and replace my sohc. Now making mine a dohc.

I tried to argue him down, but he said 6 bolts is all it takes for the removal and add-on (without talking about the muscle and the positioning of the other parts).

I am not trying to put him down, hopefully he is right.

but...

IS IT THAT EASY?

If so, would I have to change any headers or manifolds or anything like that? Would I have to get stronger sparks. Or what?

wow...that is...

I am speechless...though...words are coming out right now....

thanks

Dont get me wrong its an in depth process and for the time and money of getting all those parts and then having them installed isnt a good enough payoff, beleive me I've though over this countless hours of doing a turbo conversion, but in all reality your better off selling your car and buying a turbo car.

My friend however did a full conversion from 1.8 to 2.0 turbo in his car

For the money involved in getting all the parts, it out weighs just selling your car and buying a stock turbocharged vehicle, unless you could pick up a wrecked turbo dsm for about a grand. Shoot if I could get a hot deal like that I'd be on it!

what about the fun in making a car fast, and not just buying a fast car?

I tried that with my car and seriously disapointed myself :( , however after this thread and time to sleep last night, I know of 2 people whos are sellling turbo 1g dsm's very cheap. Im gonna get some details and see if maybe I can pick one up. If I could pick up a turbo car for say under $1k and do yet another engine swap in my car I think it woul dbe worth the insurance saving s payoff. I really do like working on car and prolly could do the full swap in 2 days :thumb:
