im planning to get a logger before modding my car since a lot of people recommend it. should i buy a palm IIIc separately and get all the cables and software separate? if i do where do i get the software and cables? or should i just buy the kit from obdloggers? whats better..pocketlogger or mmcd? i did some research but im still confused of what to get

I use pocketlogger, typically MMCD is for OBD I, If you are using this on your 1999 Eclipse, I would run with pocketlogger. Find a nice logger. If you use a palm for everything, I would go ahead and spend some money for a nice one. If your only going to use it for logging. I would go with something that has the ability to light up the background for night driving. I personally like the Palm Zire 71, they have great features and makes it easy to read at night. PM me if you have any questions.

what palm has a good color backlit display for viewing at night but not so pricey at the same time?

Pocketlogger without question. Pretty much consensus opinion is it is probably the best logger software for a 2G. Obdlogger comes with freeware logging software: OBDGauge and PalmNStein that you can download yourself off the net, and both are very buggy with poor exporting capabilities. Their sampling rates are also poor. You would be better served going with quality software like pocketlogger which is more expensive but a superior solution.

I'm 1g, but I use Pocketlogger and MMCd on a Palm IIIc.

Can't recommend the Palm IIIc enough. It's color, cheap, and uses a rechargable internal battery. And if you buy a $6 auto adapter, you can make an easy modification to the serial cable and have it always powered while in the car. I also fabricated a nice aluminum bracket for it that mounts to the side of my console.

I bought a new OEM Palm IIIc, auto adapter, and serial cable from Gizmos2Go.com for like $60.

PocketLogger and the diagnostic cable was $75.

EDIT:

I should mention that I don't think PocketLogger will run in color (I haven't figured out how, if it does). But MMCd looks fantastic on the IIIc, although that probably doesn't help the 2g guys much.

Have had both 1g and 2g.... Tried pocketlogger, MMCD, Palmnstein...Nothing compares to pocketloggers software.
If you are to use a palm logger, PL software is superior imo.

See, thats what is confusing to me. Doesn't the company like pocketlogger.com provide the software? Isn't that what you are paying for? Or are you paying for the OBDII cable? I am just confused on what you get from pocketlogger.com

You need a PDA, software, and two cables; a diagnostic (ODB) cable that plugs to the car, and a serial cable to connect the ODB cable to the PDA.

PocketLogger comes with the ODB cable and the software. So you will need to buy a PDA (Palm or equivalent) and a serial cable.

Again, I'm 1G, but I think the connection requirements are the same...

Just out of curiosity... what was the last version of MMCd you used, and why do you think PL is better? Was it an accuracy issue or something?

Other than PL's preset ability (which is nice), I think MMCd (version 1.8g) blows it away as far as view/graph capabilities, auto log conversion to Excel, command organization, etc etc..... and it's in color. :D

IMHO

Thank you very much!:thumb:
