Damper fork

Just a quick question... Does the damper fork on the lower lateral ball joint have threads... Ive tried to beat this sucker out and it wont come.. My only other idea is that it has threads on the fork.. I don't think so but would like to know for sure... thanks

Nope, no threads. Take the nut off and bang the bolt out. And just to make sure, you're trying to remove the LCA from the fork right?

You're referring to the cast steel fork that attaches the shock to the lateral arm? No, it's not threaded. It's attached with a nut and a bolt. Use a jack and locate it underneath the knuckle to help relieve tension that is put on that bolt.

Hopefully it's not rusted in solid. Sometimes cars in the rust belt can have this problem. I've had one that I've had to cut the bolt off of.

I cannot get this (for lack of better words) thing off. The bolt is starting to mushroom. It will turn slightly with a wrench but the rubber boot moves with it.. I take it the ball joint itself will not come off with this still attached...

I dont remember a rubber boot on the shock fork.

Take a pic, post it.

Mine was rusted in solid, I had to take an angle grinder to it and make some careful cuts to get the SOB out.

Like I said it could be rusted in solid. If the rubber on the lower lateral arm is moving and the bolt will not turn you will have to cut the bolt and remove the lower lateral arm. Hopefully you can get the the bolt piece out of the metal bushing w/o ruining the lower lateral arm. Mine was ruined. PB blaster and a press will be your only hope. Never seize will help prevent this again.
