I have a 97 eclipse and just completed a 6bolt engine swap and because of lack of research and knowledge on my part I bought a "Cyclone" intake manifold for it off of e-bay. Anyways I ran into the usual problems with no spot for the "MAP" sensor and less vacuum hookups etc., as I was researching more about this "Cyclone" manifold I kept reading about them needing various vacuum canisters etc. that need to be used in order to utilize its potential for low and high rpm applications and I didn't see any of this in my "cyclone" manifold. Everything I have read says that there should be butterfly's inside the intake that move to flow air according to rpm/boost pressure and I don't see this in my intake. I am confused? The intake manifold is identical to a US style 1gen and it has "Cyclone" on the top of it, and it matches up perfectly to the 1gen ported head on my engine. Am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have one of the manifolds people refer to as the JDM "cyclone" manifold. it DOES NOT say cyclone on it, but it is the 3 piece dual runner manifold with the butterfly system inside that people speak of and call the "cyclone". personaly, iv never seen one of the dual runner manifolds actually say cyclone on it, the ones that do are usually identical to the USDM manifolds.

if you had a dual runner manifold, with the butterflys that need the JDM vacume canister or JDM ecu to work, you would know it. it does not look anything like a normal DSM intake mani, its bulky and seperates into several pieces.

the manifold you have should work fine, as far as i know its pretty much the same as the USDM 1g manifold, aside from it saying cyclone and being slightly different(ie diff number of vacume ports, ect) due to japan having different emmision standards.

mine is simular to the picture above but minus the "turbo intercooler" and a couple of vac nipples.

seems odd to me how inconsistant the JDM manifolds are, iv seen single runner manifolds that say cyclone on them, dual runners that dont, and although i cant tell if the mani in that pic is dual or single runner ill take your word for it, so that makes 1 dual runner that does say cyclone.

mine just says some BS on it(MPFI or some crap, its sitting at my friends collecting dust so i cant look at it right now), you wouldnt thing it was anything special at all, untill you flip it over and see the dual runners.

i'm for sure mine doesn't have those dual style runners show above and that really answeres my question. thats a good pic.... :thumb:

There are three cyclone manifolds. N/A 4g63 (identical to usdm), jdm vr4 and vr4 rs (3 piece, with butterfly valves, says cyclone on it), and jdm vr4 rs evolution ( 3 piece, butterfly valves, does not say cyclone.)
