Hey guys...i know there are forums out there about timing belt covers and stuff like that. But i couldn't really find anything about what i wanna know. What it is, is I got my car back from the shop. I was doing a head gasket repair and didn't have time to finish the timing. but when i jacked the engine up and took the engine mount out, it's like my whole timing belt cover just collapsed. so i just cleaned up the mess and made sure there was no junk in the crank gear and anywhere near the belt. But, i got it back from the shop with out a timin belt cover and i was amazed. cause i had a lil more compression and i got my udp on. but the next day i was driving and the belt just slipped off and now there's like a quarter of it on there. is there anything i can get custom so that i can get a new belt put on and not worry about spending 100 bucks through mitsubishi dealership to get a new cover. i don't have the money at this point. but eventually i will just not now....is there anything out there to keep the belt on there with out slippin off the cams or anything? thanks for your help everyone at dsm! peace-josh

If the belt came off, there's something else going on. The cover is to protect the belt. Also you need the lower cover to time the engine. I just noticed www.dsmparts.com has pretty good prices on the belt covers. You could pic up some from a parts car for cheap ;)

Anyway, Josh, I'll talk to my buddy Kyle, he might be able to fix up something for you. Also, you could check Besslers or some other local junk yards for a timing belt cover, (if, in-fact that is the only problem), or they might even have something of that persuasion on E-Bay.

Did you check to make sure all your pulleys (AC, PS, Alternator) are in good working order and that they are not cracked or anything? Because over the summer, my AC pulley snapped and my timing belt just came off. Maybe you could check that.

Just a thought. Hope I helped, man. :dsm:

hey matt....yeah man this whole dsmtuners.com stuff is awesome. i just got a laptop so i'm gettin back into the game and i'm enjoyin gettin beat down by threads if something is wrong, cause i learn so much on here. haha if that makes since. LOL. but anyways, yeah i called besslers and all the local junkyards and even a few auto zones and mitsubishi motors wanted 130...so yeah. but i'm just gonna run around with out a timing cover till i get my cams and get cam gears...but i mean you also see guys on here with out covers which is kinda dangerous if something gets down in there but yeah ya know. man when i get my car back hopefully wed now we need to get together and hang out. i was suppose to get my car back today but they gotta check the valves they think they might be bent...buh! that's gonna put me back. but yeah if ya can talk to kyle for me man i'd appreciate it. is he the guy who does port and polishin? or ya talked about him doin it?
