one of many fiberglass adventures to come

i was tired of the massive MDF subboxes that are super heavy and blocky so i got some fiberglass supplies and molded it to my interior... comments are welcome, tell me what you think or what i should do different.

Looks great. However if you do plan to sell them possibly it won't fit in an AWD.

Great work man, if you could find some interior paint that matches your color interior, and paint the box, it would be even more stealthy. Looks great either way. :thumb:

looks good, but how does it sound?

and you should look for some tan vinyl that matches the interior, it would look 100x cleaner than the carpet.

i looked around for paint but had no luck. i am in the market for some tan vinyl though so hopefully the local upholstery shop has some.

as for sound, it sounds great. there is absolutely no flex whatsoever and i made a silicone gasket for the sub so i dont believe it leaks. a DSM boost leak tester wont work on this will it? haha just kidding.

and is the AWD hatch different? i figured thats where the cd changer was in all 2nd gens so it should possibly fit? i could be wrong... i'm just guessing.

If you wanted to sell them... or make another one

Great job. How many cu ft does it contain, and up to what size sub can you run? 10" 12" 6" deep, 7"?

That is where I wanted to put my JBL 12 but I don't think i have enough airspace for it.

one question...this may be stupid but...if you need to change any of your bulbs for your taillights...how exactly will you get to them with that blocking them?

Take it out first, stupid :p

air space is approx. .83 cubic feet. depth at which my sub is mounted (close to floor) is 9.75" but if the sub is moved up like attackeagle has set up its about 5.5".
if theres anybody with an AWD in the area i'd be happy to make a mold...but i'm kind of in the middle of nowhere haha

morbid_eclipse - i'm using industrial strength velcro to hold the box in place, just incase i do ever need in there.

I figured I'd have to space it out and cut back the edge of the floor to clear it.

My OEM floor bit the dust long ago.

Thanks for the input... I am sure you are going to enjoy it, but I would definately get a mesh metal grill and color match that to the vynil I assume you are going to use.

Would really look oem then!

Great JOB!

You get props for making that bud! That's an awesome job! I like the way it looks and how it flows.

I am not real close to you, but would be happy to donate my car if you ever want to come visit the big city.

so is the floor the only part thats different? if i took a block of wood or something to set under the box to get rid of the step, would i be able to create an AWD box or are the body panels slightly different?

looks good i started looking for something like this last night. looks completly stock. . (my 03 tiburon had a 8" sub stock infinity and i changed it out with a 10" sub) nice job

Very nice. I would like to do something like that soon. Would you like to build another one? :D

To to hijack too much.. but I thought the 2G AWD models had the same floor as FWD, only the 1G floors were different. Can some one post pics of the difference?

i'm definitely going to be interested in making more of these for people who want them (just PM me and we'll discuss it). and like the pic above with comments on it, i will fix the radius so it does flow with the oem lines. i think that was the one mistake that i knew i was doing at the time.

also, i'm assuming talons have the exact same body panels correct?

Yes, my trunk is exactly the same as yours.

I'll PM you about the future versions later.

hurry and fabricate a nice one before those big name companies make one and steal all the business :)

Already been done. JL used to make a nice stealthbox for our cars. However, this discontinued that item a while back. :( I've been looking for one, or something similar ever since.

Here are a few quick pics I just snapped. In and AWD the floor is even with the brace between the strut towers. If you look at the above pics you can see that it dips down considerably in a FWD.
