During my engine rebuild my downpipe fell apart right were the flexpipe is. apparently i never noticed the rust.:ohdamn:

The friend helping me sais he knows someone that makes custom exhaust and that was the route i was going to go. however i was looking at the way my exhaust is laid out and it has to take a complete u-shaped detour to bypass the fuel tank. I have wanted a custom welded tank in y hatch perfectly formed to where the spare tire goes seeing as i want to smooth out my gas door and antenna to make a smooth look, hell, i even considered welding the doors and getting in like dukes of hazard.

here is my question. would there be any downside of making dual exhaust straight from header to tip? Dual side exit right before the rear wheels or hidden dual tips exiting mid-bumper is something i have always wanted done, but for almost every non-factory mod there is a downside. what would it be for this project?

Your looking to run two pipes side by side from the header all the way to the back of the car? If that's the case then I see many problems. The first being clearance, two 2 inch diameter pipes would still be outflowed by one 3inch pipe. The second being weight, twice the weight obviously. The third being price as your paying for two exhausts. You also would probably lose power due to the loss of scavenging effect with exhaust pulses.

Another problem is that for the money it doesn't make sense. Your not going to get much more gain if any from running 2 instead of 1. Save the cash and go with 1 exhaust

Keep in mind turbo cars like a big exhaust and yours being a non turbo needs a little backpressure. Run one pipe back and Y it at the end. For some good ideas do a search on youtube and see what your think works best.
