what happens if you turn the crank a bunch of times counterclockwise, can it mess up the lifters?

umm well that's a REALLY bad thing to have happen, because the next time you start the engine could be the last.....valves meeting pistons :thumbdown

Did you do this? If so redo the timing belt before you start it again, or at least check the timing is lined up and shit.
