i have a 95 gst that i just aquired. im new at these eclipses but not on cars. i cant figure out why my crank sensor keeps going bad. i have put two in there in the last 3 weeks. i dont understand. i have checked the bearings and the thrust bearing and they are all good. mostly new too. and i dont see any problems. i had a friend of mine that specializes in eclipses to look at it and he coudlnt find anything wrong. but i havent got a chance to ask him yet what he thinks. what do you guys think? :dsm:

There is a very small amount of tolerance in the crank sensor. If you installed the sensor you should rotate the crank to see if the reluctor plate and sensor interefere with each other. If not then something is causing the plate to eat away at the sensor if that is the problem you're talking about. Replacing a crank sensor is pretty much straight forward. Crankwalk does the same thing. I still have my old crankwalk victimized crank sensor.

Do you hear anything after a fresh crank sensor install?

i highly doubt its crankwalk because i checked all the bearings and spec'd them. and they are fine. i made sure that plate didnt hit it.. but something is still making it go bad. any other ideas? and it used to run very rough, but when i replaced the sensor and cleared the code it is a lot smoother now. last night the check engine light came back on and its running fine so i dont know what is going on with these sensors :dsm:

You could always try switching to a 1g CAS and wiring it in. Its somewhat of a band-aid solution but should work, as long as it isan't somthing in your ignition system causing the problem.

Here is a pic of my old crankwalked crank sensor. You can see there the plastic got eaten away to expose the sensor underneath. Do your old sensors look anything like that? If not then something else is causing the problem. I would then move onto electric diag rather than mechanical.

What do you mean you "specd " the bearings? What was the measured endplay?
