Could not having my battery tied down be causing this?

I made a thread about the problems i encountered while driving home yesterday ( http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260821 ) and was going to take it to my mechanic today, but i jump started the car and everything seemed to be fine. I drove it for a while, no problems like the ones i was having, and it started again once i turned it off... I'm wondering if not having my battery tied down and it flopping around is the culprit here

Reason my battery isnt tied down is because it's too tall for the stock restraints.... i got it for a cheap price.

I really hope the battery jumping around is what's causing this.... can anyone help me out? thanks alot!
 
Is the battery right for the car cranking amps and cold cranking amps. If the battery is the wrong size it will screw with you electrical system. And not having it tired down it is possiable that the battery is grounding itself out by the positive cable touching the car. I would get the right sized battery in the car if the battery keeps ground itself out you could blow out you ECU.
 
hmmmmm i didnt think about the size being the problem. That's totally probable though, because more or less ever since i switched to the bigger battery ive had occasional flickering problems etc.

thanks man, i just dont know if i want to go buy a new battery and find out it's not the problem :|
 
Actually that is not true AnmGST. You could have a 20000 cranking amp battery and so long as it's 12v battery it will be fine. Cranking amps is a rating of how much current the battery can put out over a given time. Now obviously if you have a short to ground that is bad and will kill your battery quick, and will definetly cause all kinds of funk to your electrical system, including ECU failures, fire......etc. Of course you could just have a loose connection or a bad cable. I would check those before anything..

i had a similar problem. my car kept stallin out and i would have to boost it back up, turns out my ends from my battery cables that clamp to my posts are worn and i need new ones. so i go to wal-mart and buy new post clamps, and i install them easily no problem, but the screw that bolts down my ECU and stuff to my positive clamp is a wingnut screw. i had no idea this wouldn't clear my hood.. anyways i shut my hood and next thing i know i see a bit of smoke, i open my hood and i find the positive clamp was melted off, and it grounded to my hood. there's like a weld mark in my inner hood, doesn't show on outside or anything. but yeah so i went back to wal-mart and then got SIDE mounting posts which helped me out and gave me the clearance i needed. my car is driving fine, everything is working good. all my lights and stuff are working fine and nothing happened so far. hopefully i didnt fry something!
 
hmm welll how can i tell if the above is the case....anyways , i took the car out again, everything seemed fine..... i drive for like 30 minutes, shut the car off, went into a store, come out, start it up again, and the problem comes back....i dont understand how it's like variable when it happens or doesnt happen.

I recorded a video of what was going on when i got home, the needle is shaking like really fast, its hard to tell though, and my deck power is completely gone. Oh yeah, i strapped down my battery with a bungie cord for the time being as well.

It's really hard to tell connection quality with a picture, let alone one that has the positive battery terminal covered by a rubber boot. I'd be willing to bet that there is nothing more than a loose wire or a wire that may have tapped ground for a sec and is taking out fuses, hense the reason your deck may not be working. Seriously check and recheck all your cable connections to your battery, especially the positive side. Pull the terminal off and give a real good yank on the end. It needs to be solid on there. Also check for corrosion under that boot. Because it's a taller battery make sure you put that boot back on when your done.

P.S. There definetly is nothing bad about that 800CA battery besides being too tall. As long as it is putting out around 12v and around 13.8v while idleing your fine.

Buy a bottle of coke or pepsi and a new toothbrush. Remove the main positive wire and use your old toothbrush to scrub the positive terminal and the ring on the main power wire while pouring the cola on them. Get a good piece of heavy gauge wire and connect it from the negative terminal to the chassis ground right behind the battery. Get a nylon strap, cut 2 holes in it and use 2 small bolts, a couple washers and a nut to tie your battery down.
