Could an external wastegate cause knock?

I have an issue with knock, I always have it even with the timing retarded 2 degrees. It seems to always occour around 4200rpm and up. I'm starting to wonder if the exteral wastegate which is dumped to atmosphere is tricking the knock sensor. This happens at 15psi on 60 trim with 93 octane. I don't think that I should need higher octane for such a low boost level. I cannot get rid of the knock, anybody think it could be the wastegate or have another idea?

well knock is related to heat ... are you dumping those hot exhaust gasses directly onto the intercooler pipe by any chance? I'm having the same problem though and even with a rerouted dumptube I cna't solve it.
