Ok so I just bought a COP set up from a guy for an awesome deal, had no intention on this set up but couldn't pass it up. After I purchased it I found on ecmtuning website about swapping out two wires at the ecu to use a cop set up. My car is a 95 with a 95 ecu with link. I have a 95 CAS and it states that when using just wires that I don't need to swap plugs or anything since I have a 95 computer with a 95 engine. As of now my car just has the wires in the normal place and nothing needed to be switched so can I just hook up the cop system without having to swap ecu pins than?

^ It's considered equal to stock ignition, if not a slight downgrade.

I've personally never had anything but bad luck with COP setups. They look nice, but without a ignition controller they aren't worth the hassle IMO.

Interested in the outcome, mine broke up around 18 too. I was thinking of going back to stock to eliminate it as a concern though.

OP what other threads did you read about this issue?

Every thread I come across about the cop set up usually leads to them causing break up without a cdi. I did notice a smoother idle and better throttle response and I love how it looks but as far as performance goes it's definetly a downgrade. I'm seeing really bad reviews on the arc 2 about it only lasting 1000 miles and burning up. I would really like to stick with the cop set up but not if a cdi will help either.

funny, I have no ignition amplifier box, but I do have coil on plug (HEMI V8 coils from a 300M) and i roll 35+psi from a big papa pump hx52 turbo. no break up. My best friend Alex (boostdriven) same thing, HEMI V8 coils, hx52 turbo, but he pushes 40psi boost and a redline/shift point of 9300RPM! no break up.

Try NGK br9es plugs gapped very small at eighteen

I believe I have the same 300M COP setup. I believe also the plugs used were NGK bpr7es @ 0.28, but it's been a while. If that's true, its worth it for anyone having similar issues to duplicate that setup, especially at $2.50 a plug!

I guess I'll try closing my gap a little bit on mine and see if that helps, it's just could boost well over 20 lbs with stock coil and now can't even break 17. I love how it looks and all but I really don't wanna sacrifice performance that much. Hopefully plug gap fixes it

About a month ago I noticed that my car started to break up a bit if I ran more then 36 psi of boost which was weird because I never had this problem before. My plugs (bpr8es, .018 gap) were almost new, maybe 1000 miles on them. My first thoughts were that possibly my 5 year old battery was losing amps therefore could not keep up with the ignition system, which turned out to be the case after all said and done.

Before I replaced the battery I wanted to give something else a try. I had 2 sets of COP setups so I thought might as well give that a try. So I took one and made sure it was all wired up correctly. A guy I recently met suggested that I also try different spark plugs, br9es and gap them the same as my other plugs. So I got it all installed and went for a test drive. Right away I notice that it got a bit better but the car was still breaking up towards the top around 8500 rpms. At this point I knew the battery was the case for sure. So my buddy hooked me up a battery and after the new battery there was no more issues, 40 psi of boost and the car ran solid to 9000 rpms.

Few days after I received my arc2 and been running that set up since then. So far no issues with the arc2 but if that thing takes a shit on me I'll be sure to let you guys know. The guys that told me to get br9es plugs has been running arc2 for some time now without any issues so we will see.

Here's some great info on how to beef up the COP set up. To sum it up these guys left the COP wiring the same and just wired in a second igniter parallel and found out that it's about a 25% increase in ignition power over stock coil set up! So with my understanding I can take another igniter off a 95 gst wire it in parallel and I'll actually have an improvement over the stock system.
