Hey guys, I've always been using a green coolant solution in my dsm, but the new prestone stuff is yellow, and it says its usable with all types of cars. I know gm's use dexcool, which doesnt work great with our car, but if this coolant is made to work with all, that means that somethign had to be given to work for ours and theirs? Discuss. :talon:

Yeah, it works perfectly fine with our cars. Although, coolant is coolant. Theres no need to spend 9-10 bucks on coolant when AutoZones Valucraft coolant works the same.

To answer your question, yes it works fine. :thumb:

I dunno about that. I changed out the coolant in 90 talon a month after owning it and used that prestone yellow stuff and right after I did my water pump just started leaking outta the weep hole. I mean like right after, how weird is that?

I've used the yellow stuff, autozone coolant, meijers coolant, etc and I have never had any trouble with any of it.

I also have had no issues with the yellow stuff. Kinda funny how the old timers will tell you if your stuck, pee in your radiator to fill it up...

uhh actually i had to pee in my radiator one time...and put 2 cans of sprite too!! LOL...very long story i guess you could say, but i made it back home :thumb:

Eek, I would never piss on/into my car...But I guess if you had no choice...

probably because it had either never been changed, or their was some stop leak in it that you drained out. Doing a coolant flush can result in all kinds of problems if the car wasnt previously maintained. I use prestone myself, and i avoid mixing different types. dexcool was said to be 50k + stuff or whatever. But if their was a slight leak or air getting to it, it would turn to sludge. Toyotas hybrid stuff is not only edible, but supposedly longer lasting as well. I will stick to my 50/50 conventional untill something is prooven to make my car run better longer.

HAHAHA, I'm debating how you would explain that to a cop trying to nail you for indecent exposure.

"But officer, My car started overheating. . . and i didn't have water. . . but i really had to pee. . ."

CLASSIC!

Back to OP, I didn't know the new prestone was yellow now. Thats news to me, but i've never had a problem with anything else i've used. But i will never use dex-cool. Stupid GM coolant.

Raw coolant has no color. Manufacturers add color so that their coolants can be easily identified; honda uses blue, gm uses orange, most independant manufacturers use green, ect. As long as it is a glycol (ethylene or propylene glycol) based coolant and it states that it can be used in our cars, then you are fine. The color is just a formality.

So yes, the prestone yellow coolant is fine but it was a stupid marketing ploy by prestone; its only going to scare people away.

I'm keeping my unit away from anything that has a temperature of over 98.6 degrees.

Any medium that will take heat away will work ... Water, soda ... Urine ...

Coolant only fulfills 3 tasks, I believe. Corrosion protection, raising the boiling point of water, and lowering freeze temperatures. Any glycol-based coolant will do. I still change my coolant about once a year, no matter if I use the "lifetime" stuff or not.

nice.... I can save the 10 bucks for gas and just pee into a gallon or 2 and use that... what a way to save money.
