Coolant Problem, Need Diagnosis!

Today I was driving my car when all of a sudden my upper radiator hose decided to blow. It was apparently weak and the threads on the material gave out shooting coolant everywhere. I went to replace the hose and filled my radiator back up with fluid. Went to drive the car, and it began overheating again. I've been trying to search through the forums, but a conclusive answer really isn't there. My car never had overheating problems prior to this, and even when the hose gave out the temperature on the cluster only read slightly above normal.

I'm hoping its not the head gasket, as it doesn't smoke when it runs. Just overheats slowly. The car is out of town so I would like to know if anyone can clearly diagnose what the problem is before I go back to the car to try and fix it in the morning.

But, out of curiosity but have to ask where is your front licence plate is mounted at, for if it's in the main airstream that goes in where the radiator is at, the plate can act like a big air dam pushing the airflow aside which will cause overheating.

I would do a T-stat and cap replacement and a strong system flushout for starters if the above isn't the case and you think that the HG is okey.

But the gradual overheating is an issue that needs some main attention .... which can point to a blown HG if the overheating occurs often...

Check your radiator cap. The rubber around it begins to crack over time. Especially after over heating. If the rubber is crack your cooling system won't pressurize like its suppose to causing you to overheat.

I have had hoses blow from a leaky head gasket before. If it is leaking into the water system it will keep adding pressure to the system until it has to go somewhere, whether it be a weak spot in a hose or boil over into the overflow. If it is the hg take the cap off and start it up cold. look into the water neck and if you see tiny little bubbles coming up out of the water then chances are it is a hg. Also check for any leaves or other objects obstructing airflow.
