I repainted my new valve cover yesterday, and while I was waiting for the paint to dry, I checked all of my fluids. The coolant reservoir is near empty, and the motor was completely cool. I checked the cap on the thermostat, and that pipe was full of coolant. I know the coolant was draining and returning from the reservoir when I bought the car. But it also had a small, small leak from the hose that connects the reservoir to the thermostat, it was nothing major. I put some zipties on the hose, and it stopped leaking. My question is, is this normal? What should I fill the reservoir with? Water or coolant, or a mix? Thanks!

Car does not, nor ever has, overheated.

50/50 mix........ When you say "ziptie the hose" do you mean the reservoir hose. if so than you blocked it off and water cant flow?

No, the t-clamp that was on there was put on too tight and cracked the hose up. I put a few zipties around the cracked areas and it stopped leaking.

^^

If you have leaks in the hose between the t-stat housing and the reservoir, it will not pull the coolant in as your car cools. Replace the hose.

Where can i find a replacement? I swear to god, I have looked all over. Advanced auto, napa, pep boys... everywhere! They all say.... "oh we don't have those"

so would it be part # 22507M from rockautoparts.com then? I'm sorry, but that looks like to big of a hose even though it is in the right shape?

interesting, i cant find it on rockautoparts either...but now i feel bad haha, i'll keep looking for this as well as ask around, if i happen to find one around town ill pick it up for you. I'm sure it cant be more than a couple of dollars, ill also continue to look online

Edit:
This is the tube you're talking about right?

Holy crap, replace the tube. It's not a "reservoir", despite being called that. It's an expansion tank.
Modern cooling systems run without any airspace in them. When the coolant heats and expands, it goes into the tank, and is sucked back in as it cools. If you have any leaks in the tank or the tubing leading to it, you'll suck air back into the cooling system.

There's no need to run more than 30% antifreeze, unless your winters get cold enough to call for it (snow). On a DSM, use a gallon jug of Prestone "Pre-Mix", and fill the rest with a jug of distilled water from the grocery store.

The Mitsubishi part number for the hose outlined in the picture that 97GSTee posted is MS600623. Any Mitsubishi dealer and some of our online vendors (ExtremePSI, JNZ Tuning) can get that for you. It'll cost you less than $15.

I can't seem to find it on either of the websites?
