I am looking for info on changing my fuel to run straight meth. Specifically m85. The reason for this is that there is no e85 available in this part of the country. So i am looking for compatibility on our fuel components with meth, and what brands or models to go with. Currently I have delphi 1000's, aeromotive afpr, walbro hp 255, -8 lines from filter to rail and rail to regulator.

Thanks in advance.

Your going to melt your Biss, and ISC with that fuel. But thats all I know about that. My buddy just had that issue.

They sell a metal Biss screw that can be used, but we have not found a fix for the ISC.

He was thinkin. M85 injection like water/meth. That would do that. I do know that m85 is pretty corrosive stuff. Id possibly do internet wide search and see how others run it. U do need a programable wideband for sure.

Wow. Going to melt the ISC and BISS? Jesus.

I'm not sure that I've heard of M85, but anyway for methanol you will need a huge fuel system. It will need about 1.5 to 2 times the fuel as gasoline. Also unlike E85 methanol is very very corosive. It is also highly hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the atmosphere. You'll need to keep your fuel supply tightly sealed when not in use, and even then it can still go bad.

Your walbro 255 is no good for Methanol. I believe that Nate Chrisman is running a bosch 044, and bosch 1600's with methanol, with good results. However, I believe that those componenst will be very short lived under use with methanol, the 1600's for sure.

I do know lots of people that use alcohol run a Waterman or other Mechanical fuel pump because of the huge demands.

Mike Moran kinda pioneered the big power use of methanol with EFI, and had injectors built specifically for his needs. You might check his site out. Moran Motorsports: Products

It's also different to tune than gas an E85, here a site I read about it on Alcohol Tip Sheet Granted this is for carbed 4 wheelers, its still good info.

The shop my dad used to work for campaigned a Hilborn Injected SBC front engine dragster in the Midwest Supercomp Series, so I've been around it a bit.

What's your reason for wanting to run straight meth? Only people I know doing that are over 1000 HP. I know we don't have E85 in Canada, but if you want to be that hardcore, than find some VP race gas.

Not really. It will read off by a factor of 2.29, but that doesn't matter. When the gauge reads at 14.7, you will be at stoich. If the gauge says 11, then you will be at about 5:1, which is where you wanna be fore straight Methanol.

OP what are you going to pay for methanol? Companies like Rocket Race Fuel, sell E85, and you could probably order a drum in, I can't imagine it would be anymore expensive than a drum of Methanaol.

OP here is a very good post I found on tuning methanol engines. http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=174777

I retract my statement somewhat. I forgot that my buddies running a 2 injector setup in the cold charge pipe before the TB.

So its possible that nothing will happen, but at the same time, it possibly could.

I am considering meth because of cost. Methanol is $10/ gal even if I buy it from somewhere like home depot. 94 octane here is close to $1.50/ L. Now that the car is going to see limited street time, it might be worth it. E85 cant be imported here. M85 is 85% meth and 15% premium gas. The gas added will give it some lubricating properties, might even go to 75%. Not sure about that tho.
