Ive read a lot of you recommend cometic HG but Ive also heard a lot of say don't use that garbage but I have never once seen a reason why I should not use that garbage. I'm wondering if some of you haters can explain why not to use it?

i have a cometic gasket on my car and have had no problems with it. i also use arp head studs. When i was looking into getting a new head gasket, most people refered to it as the one to buy wi the exception of the hks gasket which cost a fortune.

here is the quote from slowboy about the cometic gasket, "This head gasket is easily on par with HKS quality. The HKS head gasket has been the main stay of the DSM community for many years but this new Cometic gasket not only rivals it in quality, but at a much more affordable price. Cometic has been building after market head gaskets for NASCAR and NHRA drag cars for more than 10 years"

heres what I pulled from one of my threads at team-2g
3. cometic headgasket = crap

but why.you can nay say and cal it crap all you want but on what grounds does it constitute it being crap?! show us, the dsm tuning comunity, some evidence on why we should not take advantage of this product and why it is bad.

Well I already have one I just want to make sure I shouldn't be second guessing my choice.

SO isn't this saying that cometic isn't as good as oem or cosworth?

Should I reconsider?

Saying cometic gasket are garbage is silly they are fine, we run 27lbs w/ arp bolts and e-85 all day long on my buddy's car w/ 0 problems, never had a blown gasket yet.

That's what I was told by my mechanic that's why I have it right now, I can't say its garbage since I haven't finished my car yet but I'm just reiterating what other people have said to me.

Manufacturers will always try to find a way or come up with a test to show or try to show how their product is better than their rival/competition. Sometimes it can be misleading though.

Cometic has been used on countless extremely high horsepower applications including some very high cylinder pressures with zero failure. Saying its "crap" because of one test is not telling the whole picture.

Don't always buy into everything you hear or read.

Cometic head gaskets are indeed not junk. They are a very good head gasket. They do however have their applications and limtiations. Most of the problems people have with cometic and other MLS head gaskets come from improper installation. MLS headgaskets must be installed with an extremely smooth head and block surface. Both the head and block surfaces need to be resurfaced if you want to run a MLS headgasket. Most people think they can just pop off the head and slap on a MLS headgasket. The lack of a proper sealing surface will cause the gasket to not seal properly. This is especially true of sealing the coolant passages. Cometic and MLS headgaskets are great but you need to use them on a properly prepared engine.
