cometic head gasket

I just purchased the high pressure cometic gasket. From some of the things I've been reading, it seems I should have the head and block resurfaced.

Is this absolutely necessary or can I get by w/ just replacing the gasket w/ the new arp head bolts?

Engine has 147k miles on it.

I put one on mine, but mine was a new rebuild, redecked block, and head. Not sure how well i will seal on yours, its not very squishy, which is the problem. Whatever you do, make sure you get some copper sealer to spray on it. It will be your best bet at making it seal on a high milage motor
