Alright as per a fellow DSM'er I am in the hunt for a DSM'er in Columbus OH who would be interested in replacing a Head Gasket with my help on a 97 GST for cash same day and possibly a 14b turbo as well.

The 14b has slight shaft play but nothing crazy and is still good I believe.

I have gotten quotes around 1000 best offer but I am looking to learn and do this with some help! I am 21 college student and just don't have the experience to perform this by myself and have a mech. but is a Honda nut and well if you don't know anything about a DSM I don't really trust you under my hood!

Car is still running but will be towed probably to avoid head damage! I am ready to do this as soon as Thursday if I can find someone!

Please help a fellow community member if at all possible! :thumb:

Thanks fellows and ladies alike!

You might have better luck posting this in the Wanted Ad section as I dont think its in the correct forum, but I could be wrong. I ran across it only because it fell under the "unanswered threads" section.

I am not looking to buy / sell. Thats why I put it in the shortblock forum.

I was hoping a Columbus DSM'er would be tight on money and we could both help each other out. :D

I have cash I just need the expertise.

Peformance Theory. They are located on 5th and Cleveland ave, Downtown Columbus.

They are working on my car as we speak and they might be able to do your HG job for cheaper :thumb:

May I have the number to performance theory? I am going to call them for sure if it is reasonable. What was your cost?

614-291-9100, ask for Nate and tell him AJ with the Red Eclipse recommended you.

I needed my SAFC rewired, fuel pump rewired, Diagnostic check, and I think I'm going to need a tune since I have 560's on a 14b. I will let you know what they charge this week as soon as I get my rebuilt EPROM ECU from Steve :thumb:

I spoke to Adam today.

I am looking at $1000 after parts and labor which is still too high for me.

Looking at 650 or so in labor. I don't know I am looking to get under 700 bucks.

Anyone looking to make a quick 500 bucks cash and wants to replace a head gasket?

LOL

:hellyeah:

-Oh I am in Canal (Winchester Pike / Hamilton) you're right around the corner from me in GC.-

Wow, yea I wouldn't pay that either. Hopefully they do not try to bone me. I'm going to ask some of my Mech friends and see if they can do a HG job on a DSM. I'll post back.

Got my rebuilt ECU in the mail just now, so I'll post back what the shop says as well.

I live in Indianapolis, and would think about making the drive. I have done a couple head gaskets on 1g's, never 2g's but they are not much different. Do you have all the parts. I wouldn't be able to do it till monday/tuesday! Is the gasket just preventative maintence or did you overheat it? Let me know

Man I forget how rediculous labor is getting these days. I do all my work and anything I cant tackle dad helps out. Why not get a Haynes manual and dive in? A HG isnt extremely difficult if youve found your way around a car before. Just make sure to get the head checked/decked and then make sure you prep the block and follow the torque sequences. If you can put something together how it came apart and read you should be able to do this.

What I would give to live in OH atm LOL

What what in the butt?

$360 is my total, the car is running and I HOPE they put a tune on it.

Fuel pump rewire
fixed safc wiring
adjusted tps
fixed oil leak on oil return pipe
tune for 14b turbo & 560cc injectors

I finally got an extra hand.

Now if I drive for an hour and the turn the car off it won't start back up. I am confused. Leakdown is solid as qell as a compression test . Anyone have any ideas?

It cranks fine and actually start but idles low very low and then putters out and dies.

Yeah HG is replaced.

I did some trouble shooting and the culprit is the the 2G MAF. I bought a brand new one. (Bad Idea $202) and it worked alright.

Now when I start the engine cold it will only start with the MAF UNPLUGGED.
Started with it UNPLUGGED the engine will warm and then I can plug the MAF back in and it will run?

I am hoping that this is a MAF issue not an ECU problem... :hmm:

Its not hard at all to take the ECU out. I would remove it and make sure the capacitors and everything else is fine. It will save you time and money, but its your call. Good luck. Later.

If I remember right the ECU is right behind the stock CD player correct?
