Coilovers for Street

Alright well im trying to decide which Coilovers would ride the best for Street use. As driving the freeway/backroads/streets and very occasionally the Track. So I dont need no 32-way adjustables.. Just want something "complete" as the Tein basic don't come with pillow ball mounts.

Who has used the JIC Magic FLT-FAS? Is this just overdoing it? My other option are the TEIN super street w/pillow ball mounts...but have heard some bad reviews on them. I DO want a Coilover setup, so if anyone has a better option im open. Im still searching the forum to see what others have setup and whether or not they like it...and will post my decision. Thanks!

Are you looking for some adjustment? I just saw a post about some Megan Racing coilovers with 16-way rather than the 32.

I have the 32 way adjustable Megan's, fort he price I'm more than satisfied. The 16 way adjustable should be just as good.

The Emusa coil over set is a Megan racing set with cheaper springs. They are still cheaper even if you buy the Megan springs.

They are around 400 bucks.

I want some adjustment, which is why I want coilovers, but dont need to be able to adjust every aspect. I just want something that I can occasionally take out for a drive and handle awesome. And something I can make some finer adjustments to take out on the track for a day. Im calling this my "stunt car" as Im heavily into cinematography and want a kickass setup so I can get some crazy shots. And I'd rather go with a more Solid setup than find out it doesnt perform like I want and have to spend a ton more money. But this all boils down to what I prefer..I know.

But has anyone used the JIC MAGIC coilovers? Im leaning towards those, as Im willing to spend a couple hundred dollars more on that.

You don't buy JIC coilovers for the street. You buy a Tein, Tanabe, H&R....or, like most DSMers, you buy some Megan Racing junk or some other knockoff ebay product. JIC are best for more of a 60/40 track/street use.

Whatever you buy, you need to look at spring rates more than "adjustability". Yes, the shock adjustment will allow you to control your rebound and dampening, but the spring rates will ultimately decide the ride quality.

When I had my IS300, I was looking to swap out my Tein SS Dampers for Flex Dampers with EDFC or Tein Comfort Sport Dampeners, as both provide a softer ride than the SS. I don't think they make the CS for DSMs, but the Flex coilovers are a bit more forgiving. Tanabe also makes a nice product.

D2 and KW are also other options.

I don't have experience with anything other than sleeve and spring set-ups (Skunk 2, Tokico, etc), Tanabe and Tein products, so I can't opine on anything else, but make sure you're looking at spring rates when you're making your decision.

2gs dont ajust camber on the pillow mounts, u need a camber kit for that.

Alright well I think I've come to a decision. Im going with the Tenabe Sustec Pro S-0C Coilover Kit, since its less than $1000, and get Front and Rear stabilizers, and front and rear upper under brace bars. All this for about $1600. and be "COMPLETE" with the suspension. Thanks ALL!

I have Tein basic with full set energy suspension bushing and fr/rr strut bar.

For street is VERY good, very satisfed.

For completed my kit missed only RMswaybar fr/rr

I have tein super streets. All that adjustability is just marketing BS anyway. Unless you have damper plots you can do all the knob twisting you want its a total shot in the dark. I bought the teins becassue I can get custom spring rates for cheap. I got mine for 600 used. Lowering the CG and higher spring rates will GREATLY out weigh all the BS damper adjustments on most of the availiable coilover stuff.

JIC and KW are the only ones ill consider when I begin to make my car more of a track/autoX car.

I have the Megan 16way adjustable coilovers. I got them from DSMParts.com shipped to my door for something like $712.00 Ride quality is fine. A little rough, but I also have 235/45/17's. I would by them again.

Yea that's what I was thinking...I'm going to turn this into a "stunt car" so I can mount the video camera's wherever I'd like, so I wanted something that handles awesome as I will be turning in and out fast between cars ect. And one that I can take out on the road for a cruise.

But im going with DGR Suspension, and will be producing a How-To video, and a before and after to show others what the gains are. So next time I have a question, ill just watch the videos.aha

I never have the chance to ride in the Megans but they are kid of like the Buddy clubs. I had a set of Buddy club before and I didn't like it at all. Way to stiff. Probably be great for the track but for daily driving was way to stiff. One of the guy has a great point. You get what you pay for. I heard Megans are pretty cheap in quality built, but that's just what I heard. I'm running Koni adjustable with Eibach sport and I love them. Not to stiff and not to soft. Rides like a BMW. I run coil overs, H&R springs with stock shocks and Buddy club full adjustable coil over in the past and by far, Koni's are the best shocks I ever own. Seriously, how many time you want to adjust the height anyways? With the Koni I adjust the stiffness of the ride and I do street race and my daily driver and I just love them.

My Megans ride as good as I want them, soft/stiff, you name it. You guys haven't spent much time adjusting your coilovers I guess. I wouldn't trade my Megans for any other coilovers. Three years and still like new.

I love having full adjustability.
