funny, I saw a 347 stroker ( not really cheap ) split the block !! There was water and oil all over the ground when it stopped !! It was REALLY nice car so I wasn't happy to see it go, but it was kinda cool...

For anyone that says that mustangs are crap lets see a stock bottom end dsm take 1000 hp without breaking. 98 and up cobras have forged internals straight from ford. It doesn't take much to make any8 cylinder out perform a 4 cylinder especially if your judging it on a hp to dollar ratio. It would take $4000-$5000 to ge you into the 10's solid with a 2001 cobra with it still being streetable(with your choice supercharger, turbo, nitrous). If you were to even go back and look at the 5.0's they have so much potential, I have one right now that runs low 11's all motor, with about $4000 in the motor.

Turbo and Supercharger kits cost close to $4000 alone, and that doesn't include supporting intake/exhaust mods, suspension mods, stickier tires or a drop in weight. Mustangs running DOHC 4.6's don't like to run big boost on stock bump-sticks, so there's another $500. GSX's are not cheap, but they handle better, offer superior comfort (for my 6'3" frame) and are simpler to mod.

Yep, that's all I hear from my friend with a blown 347. [homer simpson voice]I hope I don't split my block on this run...pleah-h-h-se hoo hoo hoo[/homer simpson voice] Granted it's a 10.90 car but still...he's on his second set of main bearings thanks to the side load on the snout from the blower belt.

LOL this is a funny post you read all the thigns some of these idiots write they dont even make sense.. ok first of all any more reaching 1000 hp even with great tuning the block will crack like an egg with a max of 3 runs with that motor .. mustangs are great powerful cars you can really feel the power in them but compared to a gsx theres no comparison.. gsx all the way just because you get so much more then the mustang could offer.. if your looking for spinning and just making smoke shows keep your gst no need for a mustang ... if your lookin for no spinning all about good times sell your car get a gsx...dsm's offer best of both worlds

I might be able to help you out here. My previous car was a 2000 Z28. I sold it a couple years ago and purchased my current 98 GSX with 15K on it.

First off, if you are going to get a newer V8, get an F-body. The 4 valve Cobra guys may not admit it, but they know they can't touch the LS1. Second, you can't get an 02 Cobra, Ford didn't build them due to power problems in the 01's. Most were putting down numbers in the 240 range, whereas an 01 LS1 fbod would put down around 310. (my '00 put down 300, dead stock) They changed the cam and used the LS6 intake for the '01. Ford released a "fix" for the dismal power numbers in the '01, which basically involved little more than modifications you would normally make yourself.

I was running a dry nitrous setup, SLP long tubes, direct flo lid, cutout, 3.73 gears, BFG DR'ds and the obligatory free mods. It was quick.

But I decided to get rid of it for several reasons. Number one, parts aren't cheap for it. A set of FLP long tube headers run about $1200. You don't even want to know what it costs to dig into the motor. The other issue was that working on it was usually an adventure. A header install can be quite a test of your patience if you don't have a pretty well outfitted garage. If you've never done it before, I suggest setting the whole weekend aside for it. Spark plugs can be done in 30-40 minutes if you are good :)

That said, the cool thing about an LS1 is that just about anyone can get it running pretty damn fast without knowing a whole lot. Best way to go is to get a basic Z28 or Formula with the A4 trans. Do intake, full exhaust, 150 shot of nitrous (wet or dry), aftermarket stall, and a pair of ET streets, some creative weight reduction and that car will go low 11's all day long. Nothing complicated.

But first, might I suggest doing a turbo swap on your GST? The reason I say this is that you don't even get an idea of your car's potential until you ditch that T25. Even doing a small 16G or a T28 will make it feel like a whole new car.

I don't fully agree with that, take your foot out of your mouth. This IS a DSM board however what you are saying about
mustangs are great powerful cars you can really feel the power in them but compared to a gsx theres no comparison.. gsx all the way just because you get so much more then the mustang could offer..
makes absolutely no sense. More to offer as far as what? Bang for buck? You are gonna over look the fox body stangs huge aftermarket. I am no auto genius but if you are going to claim our cars offer so much more then back it up with some evidence. Don't get me wrong I would rather have my car over a fox bod...or most other stangs but they are both cars that have come a long way and deserve respect, IMO.

tell this to Supra guys :p

:dsm:

The highest STOCK BOTTOM-END supra I saw was 840HP, not quite 1000hp ( pretty DAMN close !!! ), but it was freshy built and the owner even admitted it wouldn't last long.

BUT !!!! Ever here of a stage 2 buick block ? V6 caplabe of handling over 1200HP and 1200HP torque !!! It didn't come in the regal, but it is a FACTORY buick block !! They also made an ULTRA RARE stage ( as the story goes ) that was 6-bolt mains all the way across the bottomend, and was almost ALL NICKEL !! It was supposely industrutable !! Its probley worth so much no one would actully put it in a car ( if it exsist ). But there you go, 1200HP stock block....

No 4.6/5.0 can make over 600hp on a stock block and it last.

Heard of someone running a 9.9 1/4 in a GN using stock everything !!! In the bottom-end, but it did have a hogan intake etc. Still !!! I only lasted 10 runs... still !!!! Full weight BTW !!

Funny I think regals are ugly, but damn there bad ass...

:D no but he really didn't specify a car in that sentance, so I threw it in there..... :p

crank or wheel hp? There are many guys on the Supra board that have hit 800 wheel horsepower which is right around 1000 crank hp

i Don't vist the supra or vette boads... They don't like me usually b/c I make fun of there 1000HP 12 sec cars... The beauty of AWD...

I read about that 840HP one in turbo mag. Its believable for sure, but not 1200HP either, or a 9 sec car, but it sure looks a lot better IMO. I almost bought one b/c the deal was too sweet to be true, and it was..

BTW way I mean 1200 Whp on that GN block.. My friend has one, he got it cheap...$2600.00 !!! just the block..

see this is what i mean coming in making post that make no sense... what ttawd3s said is true i have never heard of a supra motor with near to 1000 hp even with 800 hp your still 200 hp short.. this may be a dsm board but im not gonna dawg on mustangs i kno they are awesome cars to have cuz i had one the reason i went for a dsm is cuz their rare here and they are the BANG FOR THE BUCK..im a guy that has had best of both worlds and i would deff pick a dsm over a stang anyday.. and i shoudlnt have to tell you what dsm has to offer other guys here have shown their times to prove what OUR cars can make

Well, be fair. After all, they deserve it:D

Pure personal bias: I like high-tech more than big iron. I'd pass Mustangs if only for that cheezy grating on the C scoop that doesn't even pretend to be an intake. Meanwhile, that back corner of the side windows on the 2G is one of the most beautiful shapes ever accomplished on a production car.
If you're really that torn on your decision, flip a coin for yourself and you'll make the real decision while it's in the air. But it's gotta be _your_ decision, podner. There just isn't a right nor wrong here.
Although Mouse wangs do suck, of course. oo! sorry!

Well considering we are talking about the foxbody...disc brakes for starters. ROFL

Tight chassis (If you have never owned or driven a Mustang, you have NO idea how that 1978 Ford Fairmount chassis underneath twists and jiggles)

AWD

Much better looks IMO

Ergonomically designed interior that doesn't look like a modified Granada.

An engine built to make 500whp without removing a nut. (You have to at LEAST swap the pathetic heads on the Stang and that's no small job)

Much more durable transmission. (Yes we bag on the DSM tranny but guys do run in the 8-9-10 second range on them. The stock Mustang T-5 is the biggest POS known to the car industry)

IRS. (That alone is worth the price of admission)

The list goes on...
