I have something making a clicking sound when i first depress my clutch and when it is released almost all the way out. I want to take the return spring apart to see what is worn out, but am not sure about how strong the spring is. Will i need a spring compressor or can i compress it with my hands ?

What spring are you talking about? The spring on the clutch pedal? If so you don't need a spring compressor it isn't that big of spring. I believe it's just held there with washer and cotter pin. If this is the spring your talking about making a clicking noise, are you sure it's down there and not in the tranny it's self?

Yes that is the spring i am talking about. When i press the clutch in by hand and place my finger on the top of the spring assembly connected to the mounting bracket, you can feel the cotter pin and plastic washer move and when this happens you will hear a click

The best thing i can probably tell you is to take it apart and look at it. If the plastic washers isn't worn all the way out and nothing looks extremly worned out then i would just put some lithium grease or antoher type of grease on it. It sounds to me like it's more of something that gets on your nerves not something that r eally effects performance in anyway.

This happened to me, but it was the clutch master cylinder itself that was making the click noise, maybe that could be a possibility to?

I wouldn't doubt it. Unless that plastic washer is worn out, i wouldnt think it would be that spring.

I removed the pins holding the spring assembly to the clutch bracket, i pushed the upper pin almost out and could see what a pain it would be to reinstall the new one. I was able to get the pin back thru, really dont think i would have been to install the pin if i had pushed it all the way out. There is no room to work under there, looks like i would have had to remove the clutch pedal assembly. The clicking noise has now stopped after everything is back together, maybe it will stay this way for a while.

My car had the same problem and I even have a spare clutch pedal spring in my tool box that I never installed. I sprayed the old one with WD40 and the problem hasn't returned for 2 years.

Yeah it's really cramped under there to adjus that pedal or take out the spring. The master cylinder on the firewall is even more of a PIA to change. You need to have hands that have about 12 inch long fingers and are the size of pencils LOL
