I just got a 92 tsi awd and the clutch has trouble going into gear. I bought a new slave cylinder and had it overnighted. I got the wrong one and I'm getting the right one tomorrow. I assumed that the hydraulic system was getting air in it. It was leaking a very little bit overnight at the slave cylinder. I can't down shift and i'm woundering if it is because the slve cylinder is not disengaging all the way because i think i can feel that i have to rip it out of gear a little bit when I have to shift.
Another question i have is i would like to put a BOV on my car and my grandmother is getting me an HKS BOV that i found on ebay. Do i need to hook up the hose back to the turbo? I was told it just runns richer and it does shut off every once and a while after a good rev. Is this ok to do and what do i need to do the install this and keep my car running fine?

Clutch answer: Get the new one on and bleed the system then get back to us if it still does it...leaky slave cylinder is the culprit 99% of the time...DO NOT attempt to yank your shifter in and out of gear, thats a sure way to end the life of your syncros..

Bov answer: Please remember the power of the search function. I did a very long explanation not 4 days ago with the key words bov that would of answered your question. Since I'm sure it was an honest mistake and it wont happen again I'll save you the time of having to search.

sorry about that, forgot i had that listed.
I should be getting the slave cylinder tomorrow and it will be installed tomorrow. Do you think that will help the downshifting part or could there be a gear oil shortage or too much? I bought new gear oil and i'm going to just change it all together. It's better to change it all then just add some. The car did sit for 2 years before i got it.
So you are saying that i am better off getting the GM sensor. I was eventually going to do that but if i'm going to need that probably first i will start saving for one. Getting the sensor and you have to get a MAF Translator box as wel right, and even for now woulddn't i be able to hook up the BOV and run the hose to the intake for now untill i get the GM sensor?

The slave cylinder should at least help a lot as far as downshifting goes........depends on if you trashed some synchros or not as to how well it performs. I wouldn't recommend downshifting from 2nd to 1st, and remember to rev-match with the other gears. If it's been a while since the last fluid change, then yes, drain and refill the fluid in the tranny.

As far as the BOV goes.............yes, for now you can recirculate the BOV without having the MAF-T setup. However, some HKS models require a recirculation kit to do this. Of course it's sold separately.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to change all the fluid in the Trans and When i put this new slave cylinder on tomorrow evening. Ill let you know how it turns out. Until then I'm going to order the GM sesnsor from the Z06 Corvette and the wire harness. Do you need to get the Translater or can you just use the harness and plug it in?

You WILL need the translator..........that way your car knows what the new information means.

Also, all you need is the GM sensor.........the translator will have the necessary connections to plug into the new sensor. You can also find the GM sensor used pretty cheap.....$30-$40, sometimes less.

I put the new slave cylinder on and felt a diference. The pedal was not as spongey. I then took it around the block and it was definately shifting better and i went to go and downshift. It still grinds. I now can't get it into 1st gear anymore. I'm thining since i can't shift at high RPMs that the pressure plate is bad. Maybe the springs are to loose.
The GM sensor is not on my 1st to get list anymore. I've been looking at clutches and i'm feeling a centerforce stage 1 or 2. I know someone who has an ACT stage 2 and they like it. Any input will help.

Its got to be your clutch...i recently bought a 90 GSX and it too had the same symptoms you have, it did too have a new slave cylinder etc, etc...well turns out the springs from the clutch disc were rolling around on the bottom of the case, and the input shaft going to the tranny was snapped off. But my car was about 2x as bad as urs seems to be...hope it helps:thumb:

Thanks, I'm pretty sure the Pressure plate is the problem but now i need to come up with about a grand to get a new clutch installed. What kind of clutch did you put in? I'm looking at a centerforce clutch because they are really good with AWD I heard.

The clutch I put in my car was only an OEM because the car is just a winter beater for the time being, but i just rolled my other eclipse two days ago so i dont know what im gonna do with the turbo car now....gonna have to be my new daily driver. But 1k to get a new clutch in is alot. mine cost me 450 for labor. well the clutch itself was 150....its good to hear you got the problem pinpointed though. I guess centerforce clutches are good though.
