i was wondering how long will it take to put a new clutch disc and flywheel? i did a search but didnt find anything. and how long will it take to put a tranny in? :talon: <-- love it

my first time it took me like a whole day. but i did it soo many times now it only takes about 4 hours. just take your time so you dont forget anything. for my first time i went to vfaq.com and followed the directions for trans removal.
goodluck

Yeah same here i went to vfaq.com for my first time. I would definitely take your time. My first time i did it i forgot to tighten the two bolts that hold the drivers side axle in. Whoooppps. You should be able to do it for your first time in about 6 to 8 hours.

hey i cant seem to find the trans removal at vfaq i just find trans rebuild or is that what you ment?

First of all, you're 420a. All 2gnt's with the exception of a small # of 95's have modular clutches, so the flywheel comes put together with the clutch assembly. You simply just have to bolt it to the flexplate which is bolted to the crank. Only problem with this is that there are 4 bolts on the flexplate. Only 3 of them are on the same axis, and 1 is offset a tiny bit(not enough to tell by sight). It just takes alittle trial and error. I would mount it with one bolt, and go to the next and if it wouldn't fit, take the first bolt out, and spin the clutch to the next bolt hole etc. etc. until all 4 bolts went in.

As for the transmission removal/installation. It took me about 3 hours of working to get it out. Unfortunantly I didn't have 3 hours to devote in one day, so it was spread out over about 3 days. It took me about 2 days to get it back in, prob 2 hours.

Now that I know the ropes, I could get it out and in, probably in a day. :thumb:

I'll be more than happy to help you get through it on your own. It's much better than having to pay someone 400 to do it for you.

There is no Vfaq reguarding the transmission for us 420a's. He didn't notice you have a different motor/tranny than him.

dsmcrazy im talkin about my second car im getting project car 1992 tsi it needs a new clutch and tranny the 2g is my transport car

EDIT: it maybe a 6bolt motor it was made in may 1992 and only 500 dollars for it:sneaky: :thumb:

I don't know how it takes people so long to get their tranny's out. If it's fwd it shouldn't take more than an hour. My brother can change a clutch in his awd in under 90 minutes. I've seen him do it numerous times. It takes me a little over 2 hours to do a clutch swap, and I'm a fatass.

Being a fatass is a huge advantage over annorexics like me. Bigger stronger people can get under the tranny and let it down the ground. They can also lift the tranny right where its supposed to be. Bottom line......I wish santa gave me a girth for christmas.

haha, I'd gladly trade places with you, being a fatass sucks. A ratchet strap and a jack can help you get the tranny down with very little trouble. If you have two people then it's faster to just manhandle it out. You have to rotate it a bit, but it's not too bad.
