Clutch install question

Hey guys, I am in the process of installing a act 2900 pp and new act street disc and have a question regarding the gap between the flywheel and pp. I have read that the pp should sit flush against the flywheel after all the bolts are torqued to 14 ft/lbs in a star pattern.

Well, I have done this, and yet I still have a slight gap between the pp and flywheel. I have taken it off and tried putting it on every way with the same results. And yes, I have the flat side of the disc towards the flywheel and am using a clutch alignment tool in the process.

Should I slowly tighten each of the bolts until the pp sits flush against the flywheel? I am just hesitant of doing so since all the bolts are already torqued to 14 ft/lbs.

NOTE: Flywheel is a act streetlite flywheel.

Need to get her together for the cookout on Sunday so any advice on how to solve the issue is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

You're tightening against the tension of the pressure plate. Tighten the bolts until the pressure plate is seated, then torque to spec. Don't forget thread locker

This is assuming flywheel is stepped correctly

The bolts are already torqued to spec. So are you saying I should tighten them more until the pp is fully seated? The flywheel doesn't even have 5k on it and I had a very hard time removing the flywheel bolts. The flywheel surface looked great and some guys on the local forum said to just sand it with some 400 grit and rock it so that is what I did.

Seriously until you get the surfaces to meet, you can't get an accurate torque measurement because you're fighting the actual sprung tension of the pressure plate.

Ok got it, thanks guys! I would just assume that if I tighten the bolts anymore to have the pp seat then they would be torqued more then 14 ft/lbs.

I didn't get a chance to work on it last night but as of now, this is how it sits. I understand what you guys are saying and will try that tonight. I just wanted to post up a pic so that if anyone ever has this issue in the future they have something to refer to when searching.

I got some new bolts and a torque wrench (my current torque wrench is garabe) that I am going to use tonight. Like mentioned above, I will try tightening each of the bolts in a star pattern until the pp sits against the flywheel and then torque them to 14 ft/lbs.

I am having the same problem! Same amount of gap. The pressure plate wont sit flush even when the service manual is followed to the letter. At first I thought the new clutch was incorrect of the flywheel wasn't machined properly but everything measures out and I cant even get the old pressure plate to sit right. I'm baffled!
