Ok I'm having a frustrating problem, awhile back I had ordered a xtd clutch , clutch was always engaded, never figured it out , so I took it off and put the stock one back on.

I ended up blowing up the stock clutch, which brings me to today ,i try to instal a act 2900 kit,i bought it from my friend that only used it for 500miles. So I put it on and clutch its always engaded so ,i used the fw my friend was ruining it on, and same issue, put some washers behind the pp to give it more play to disengaged , and that didn't help, took them out and same thing , then I noticed the clutch master cylinder had play, so I bought another one, and bleed the hell out the clutch, and still nothing..

But if I put the stock unit it works wtf? I'm so tired of taking the tranny so many times, what could my problem be?...like I said this is the 2nd time it does this with aftermarket clutch but everything is prefect with stock clutch

You put washers behind the pressure plate? WHAT? Your car is old. Your clutch pedal has a TON of miles on it. Most likely your clutch pedal assembly is worn out. Make sure the flywheel has the proper step on it that matches the clutch. That right there causes a TON of engagement issues. But the BIGGEST culprit is a worn clutch pedal assembly. Get under the dash and locate the clutch master cylinder ROD. Watch that rod as you slowly push the pedal down. Only need to push the pedal an inch or so. If the pedal moves AT ALL but the rod does NOT, your pedal assembly is worn and must be repaired!

How do you fix the pedal assembly? What's the step on the fw? I used the same fw that my friend had on with this clutch and still nothing..

Also if it was the pedal assembly wouldn't it give me problems with the stock clutch? Cause with the stock clutch it works flawless

Checked the pedal assembly , and if I move the clutch at all the rod moves, ask the assembly is good

Ok I check the pedal assy, I say it don't have play, my bro say it does , so my question is if the assy was messed up how come with the stock clutch it works perfect

You weld up the pedal assembly. There is a round bushing that goes into a square hole. That hole gets rounded off and that's where the play happens.

A stock clutch requires much less effort to engage/disengage than an aftermarket unit, especially a 2900lb unit. So, a stiffer clutch magnifies the problem because it requires more force via clutch pedal to actually move the pressure plate fingers.

I'll make an example so you can understand.

Ex. 1: stock clutch. A piece of paper represents your clutch, while a broken pencil (one that is broken, but not yet snapped in two) represents your pedal assembly. Now, try to take that pencil and slowly push it THROUGH the piece of paper without snapping the pencil in 2. It's entirely possibly.

Ex. 2: ACT 2900. Now take a thick piece of cardboard. That represents your clutch. Use the same pencil and try to push that through the cardboard without breaking the pencil. The cardboard magnifies the pencil's weakness to the point where it no longer can do what you intended it to do.

Your stiff aftermarket clutch is exposing the weakness in your clutch system in some way. It may or may not be the pedal assembly. Could be a leaky master/slave cylinder, could be air in the lines, air in the master cylinder, if not bench bled prior to installing a new unit. Or it could just not be adjusted properly. Could also be a mis-stepped flywheel. ACT usually calls for a .609-.613" step on a flywheel for their PP/disc setup. Also....mixing and matching clutch discs with diff. PP mfr's is NOT recommended, mainly because it causes disengagement nightmares, such as yours.

As far as checking the clutch pedal assembly for play, it's not rocket science. If the pedal moves and the rod doesn't, you have play. Simple!

If you have a worn out pedal assembly you can get 1 from Shepherd Racing DSM AWD Driveline Products , or you can fix it yourself. Check out these threads they have good info! also make sure your using an OEM master cylinder and slave cyl. you dont wanna use that cheap ebay stuff:thumb:

Well we both looked at the pedal assembly and the rod moves with every bit the pedal moves..so tomorrow I'm gonna take the tranny off and add washers on the pivot ball and look at the pedal assembly in the day light

Ill report tomorrow what happens
