Why do I always get the weird problems?

I was cruising about 25mph down a quiet street, put clutch in to down shift while making a right turn, and next thing I know, without any bumping grinding or any noise whatsoever my tranny goes neutral in all gears. While motor running, I can put it in any gear, that is with clutch in and out and car never moves or makes any odd sounds at all. I can feel the shift forks engaging the sliders just fine. Clutch feels fine and no leaks. It's like the input shaft snapped, quietly, or my new 2700lb clutch pressure plate collapsed in, bushing insert for input shaft on my rigid clutch disc broke loose? I thought something weird my have happened up top to the adjustment rod to master cylinder but it's tight. I used to here the throwout bearing a little before but no it's perfectly quite. Any ideas?
