cigar lighter

Okay so its not a fuse i dont think? Theres a wire for my air/fuel guage that goes to my cigar lighter fuse, and when i take the wire out my lighter still doesnt work. What else could it be? I have this dope ass radar detector i just got and i cant use it. help please

Are you doing this when the car is off? The cigarette lighter only works when the car is on. I found this out when I tried to wire some stuff to it one day.

I dont know bout you 2G guys, but mine works with the power on and the car off...........

What I mean is the key has to be in the "on" position". I think it works in the "acc" postition too, i just cant remember.

Yeah ive tried it with the car on and still doesnt work.

Have you considered hard wiring your radar detector to a switch then? Thats what I did in one of my old cars a long time ago. Much more convenient then having a wire all over and going to the cigarette lighter.
