cigar lighter question

it doesnt work, i checked fuse and its fine, should i just replace the whole thing?

remove the center console w/ the shifter boot and check to make sure that all the wires are properly plugged in

Grab a multimeter and a Haynes/Chilton's book. Check for 12 volts at the lighter, and work your way back until you discover where power is lost. Find the fault instead of just chucking parts at the problem. Sometimes you'll get luck, but most of the time you'll just be pissing money away replacing good parts.

Wire the detector in at another place - take a whole saw and cut the lighter out! Place some type of gauge there (I made the mistake of placing a boost gauge there - problem is you must remove your eyes from the road to see it.) NO Smoking in the car!

Seriously though, if you got a radar detector, just hard wire that shit into the radio power wire so it turns on when you start the car then you don't have to worry about wires runing all over and shit sticking up out of the center console.
