Did an oil check and saw milky residue on the dipstick. I started it up and ran it at idle for 3 minutes. Oil pressure was perfect as usual and had no leaks of any kind. THEN I checked the oil again. It looked like a chocolate millkshake on the dipstick and on the valve cover cap. What's up??? I have a cometic head gasket (new as of 2007) and torqued properly "supposedly". The car started up fine too initially. Still starts up ok. What is going on??

You have coolent in your oil. Do a compression check for the head. Do you still have the external oil cooler for the 1990? If you have a 1991 oil to coolent exchanger check that.

If my car came with the ext. oil cooler, I got it. Here's the deal though...I never drove the car and over heated it to blow the gasket...I let it sit in my driveway for the winter but periodically I go out start it up and get things circulating. Last week the oil looked fine, this week it has the residue...could the block have magically cracked?? It's a new block built up as of 2006...I don't get it.

oh yeah, I just came back in from starting it again...it fired right up and I moved it about 20 feet for the snow plow guys...it still has great oil pressure and there's no visible leaks...could it be cracked somewhere? I feel stupid but I don't have any mechanical experience guys to troubleshoot.

Is the car blowing white smoke? Did you check the overflow bottle for oil? These are sure telltale signs of a blown headgasket. Do a compression test.

I see that you recently got a rebuild along with that Cometic metal head gasket.

The thing with those gaskets is that the block and the head must be decked and extremely clean before installation. Also, most recommend that copper spray be used when installing these head gaskets.

My guess is that your head gasket didn't seal correctly.

The next step in diagnosis should be a compression test. A compression tester can be rented from a fair amount of auto shops at little or no cost.
The process of performing a compression test is easy and outlined in this link. http://www.geocities.com/dsmgrrrl/FAQs/compression.htm

I think it will blow white smoke every winter.

There are different types of white smoke. There's the common winter smoke from the condensation of winter and it's usually less visible once warmed up. And then there's the smoke of something burning which lingers in the air for a while because of the particles that have been burnt.

Not a rebuild man, a new build. new block...but that's good info you gave. the mechanic did NOT use copper spray at all infact he used nothing (told me not supposed to with comedic hg) but then again he builds infinitys and wrxs. Anyway, I'm beginning to think that's what happened...a bad install. Plus the mechanic treated my car like a dirty hoe because it wasn't a $40,000 G35 even though my engine is built tougher.
