Is there a cheap way to do this? Can i just go to a shop and tell them i want 3" piping straight back w/out resignator(just straight back) and have them weld on a muffler with 3" inlet and it be cheap. Guys around here are telling me its still going to cost around $350-400. So im guessing labor is 75% of the whole thing?!! I dunno, can you guys tell me how you got around this or whats the cheap way to go?!--Tony

It depends on a lot of things how much it will cost. Mandrel or press-bent (Mandrel is better), as well as what material you use (stainless, etc...). I recently had a downpipe custom made and it cost me $350 installed from a guy in my car club, but it had all the fixins (02 eliminator, external dump, testpipe, etc...)

Go around to local shops, see what they can do and what it will cost.

Usually any place you go to get custom exhaust is more often than not, crushed (Which you DONT want) as insert said the "Fins" are crushed piping. For stainless steel catback expect about $400-$500 plus labor and $250-$300 for Aluminized catback. Personally I say stick with the Alumonized unless you plan on keeping your more than 10 years or plan on useing your car for Car shows, Stainless is almost a guarantee it will outlast the car. If you buy a kit online for your DSM and it already has all the flanges/hanger weilded you can honestly install it yourself, depending where you live the bolts might be a a biznach to get off so Liquid Wrench will be your best friend.

It might be best to check ebay for a downpipe. I got a SS 3" downpipe for 160$ shipped. It also had a 3 stage polish on it. I was lucky enough to find bosal liquidating their AWD cat-backs for 320$ shipped so I picked that up to.

OH, and dont bother trying to get your exhaust taken off in "sections" disconnect it from the o2 housing(as well as remove the rear o2 sensor) and drop the whole damn thing down then pull it out from under the car and set it aside.
