I have found a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 5 Speed ~120,000 Miles, it needs new tie rod ends(no big deal), the interior is warn, and also there is a dent on the passenger side door this is going for about $3500....I would like to get it; however, that seems as if it is a lot of money for that car with that many miles, and what not. What does everybody think? Does that seem reasonable? I know that the Blue Book value is about that...but I just do not know...sorry if that seems as if it is a dumb question.

I think it might be a little high. The dealerships around here are selling RS's for 5000 in very nice condition. Is this from a private seller?

KBB with the basics (ie. CD player, no sunroof, no leather seats, etc.)

Is 4,180 for a 1997 GS with 120K miles on it.

So, I'd say it's a decent price especially since the tie rods need replacing.

www.kbb.com I also used the "fair" option instead of good or excellent condition.

Yeah, it is sold through a dealer. I know one of the people though, so I could probably get it for $3000 or so. But other than that it is in pretty good shap, as far as I know. Yeah, well I was looking at it at kbb, and saw that it was about the right price...it just seems high to me....I don't know

Yeah, that does not sound too bad...

Well, I went up to go look at it and I guess the seats are not torn I guess it was just the texture of the cloth or something...so that means that there are only three real factors that is the dent on the passengers door, the tie-rod ends, and 120,000 miles! So, I don't know...it seems to be worth it.

Have you considered getting a GST or GSX? I had a 95 GS for my first car and it was only a matter of weeks before I sold it and bought a GST. You can get a nice turbo 1st gen for that price.

Just my .02

Yeah, a turbo would be really nice. But also, like oyu said, a first gen. That is what I have now and I am basically retiring it due to high miles(170,000) and many other things. So, I would like something new and different. So I am trying to find a 2nd gen. And where I am in order to find a good dsm at a reasonable price is a hard thing to do. They are all over the place just everybody wants way to much for them. So I saw that one for like $3500 and figured it would be pretty good...but yes, turbo would be really nice!

that is a horrible deal. i got my 97 gsT with 78k and 18in. rims for only 5000. and all it needed was 300$ in body work, and a nice interior clean!

Well, I am not so sure that it is a horrible deal....but I must say that what you got sounds like, simply, an amazing deal.

I could probably get them down to like $2500-3000...

I just want to say, I got my 95' Talon TSI AWD with 80,xxxmi. for $3700 taxes, tags, and whatever else about a year and a half ago. It is fully loaded w/leather and there was nothing wrong with it. The only thing I have to replace since I bought it is the turbo now because I drive the hell out of it.

IMO that's too much for a non turbo..

My 2 pennies also.

I say that if you want a car as a daily driver then buy a honda but if you want a nice sporty car go with a turbo DSM, I really don't think taht you will be satisfied with a gs if you want a sporty car. Turbo's fill all quesionable gaps. ( It has a huge dent...oh wait its turbo, I will buy it.)

Well, here is a question: I can get a turbo cheap enough for it...a couple hundred...how difficult would it be to put one on afterwards? Would there be a lot of extra things that I would ahve to buy?

It is just that these cars in this area for an acceptable price in good shape are not something seen a lot....

Yeah...well, that means that I could save a lot. 4 new tires? What does that run? Like $500?

It would cost you a lot to turbo the car and do it so it is somewhat reliable. I would estimate at least 1000 and I think that is really low.

Yeah, well that is what I have bveen seeing, a thousand or so. Which is not too bad......
