I want to get my car to run a little cooler. I am going to install two slimline fans, 185* thermostat, and i need to know how to get the fans to kick on sooner then 210*. How can this be done? Do i need to have it programmed into the ecu or is there some sort of relay i can change on the radiator. Thanks

On a 1G the radiator fan is controlled by the thermoswitch mounted in the bottom of the radiator. It turns the fan on at 185F or higher and turns it off at 178F or lower.

You would need to find a different switch that fit with a lower switching temp or do a manual switch.

I have a 92 1g and the fans dont kick on until 205-210. Do you know where i could get a different thermostat switch? Thanks for the help!!!

my 1g fans come on at around 189degrees.. I'd check and see if your switch is working correctly. At the bottom of the radiator is a switch. unplug the harness and jump the wires and see if the fans come on

Same here. I have a Ziger 14" fan that is a pusher. I'm using a stock temp thermostat and the stock thero swtich. I just spliced my new fan into the original wireing harness for the stock cooling fan. The ECU only controls the A/C fan and I don't even really think the ECU does that. I think that is just controlled VIA the A/C switch and wired into the A/C relay box.

My fan kicks on at around 209* on the logger. Being I have a 92 I've been debating replacing the coolant temp sensor for the ECU, installing a 180* thermostat and use an adjustable fan switch to turn on at 190*. The thing that becomes the problem is that their is a tempeture range for the ECU to go into open loop and if your car is running a colder thermostat and running under that set temp you will have very horrible fuel milage as you'll always be in open loop.

almost started a new thread but this one is almost related to my problem.

I have a 96 GSX and I overheat when Im sitting in traffic after long periods of time. I've got a fresh 180* t-stat, almost all new coolant lines, new fluidyne radiator, the dual FAL slimline fans, and some water wetter.

I noticed yesterday that when it gets really hot, if I shut the car off, and turn it right back on, the temp drops to normal, but it doesnt always do this. I've checked my headgasket and some of the other normal things that may cause it to overheat, and im not losing any coolant, and my entire cooling system is new. This leads me to believe it could be some sort of cooling sensor or switch that could be going bad but im not sure if these cars have 1 switch that controls both when the fans kick on and the coolant or if they have 1 for each, and more than that, how to test to see if they're functioning properly.
