daly city,
i think i bust my center differential, rear tires hop or skip everytime make a U turn or shap turn.My question is if i replace a used tranny, does come with it or its part of transfer case???? Please help me!

Samething happened to mine. The rear tires skiped across the pavement when I made sharp turns. When my tranny finally went out, the center diff. was locked up. The guy who rebuilt it put a spool center diff.

A used tranny is just that - used. It may have a bad center diff too, as it is common with DSMs :dsm: :laser: :talon: One indication of a bad center diff is worn, shiny splines and excessive endplay on the output shaft.

The owner before you may have welded his center diff(or added a spool), thus giving 50% power to both front and back wheels all the time. So when you make sharp turns the rear wheels will skip because it wont allow one to rotate faster than the other like an unwelded diff. This can be useful because it gives you more traction while launching. maybe you could contact the previous owner and see if infact he did install one.

The name "spool" is old drag racing slang for the drive wheels being "locked" together so that they both turn the same speed regardless of traction, wheel size etc.....

Drag racers like this part because it reduces their 60' times by as much as .2ths of a second. Rally guys like it because the car will oversteer when the gas is mashed

An economical approach for sending equal power to the front & rear differentials. Done the correct way with a jig to hold everything on center, preheated, both side gears Ni-rod welded for strength and post-heated at a controlled rate. Welds will not fail. Power split is 50/50. TRE recommends using your existing center differential, if the outer gear isn't damaged, because the teeth have been bedded together with the other gear in your transmission.
How does it drive? You'll notice it when turning into Taco Bell or at low speeds. You can also dyno the car in FWD mode by removing the transfer case. Great for rally.

From the TRE website.

I would say just drive it intill something else breaks in the tranny. Then have the tranny rebuilt. Thats what I did. Also I would recommend getting getting a welded center diff or a spool. It will still skip across the pavement but the traction gains are worth it. The guy who rebuilt mine said it was also better on the tranny.

i picked up the car after machanic replace a used tranny and trasfercase and something happen to me on free way i was speeding about 50 to 60 and then out of nowhere my car just feels like the brakes started coming on, Droped me down to 25mph pretty fast and i notice that my wheels are locked up and i could't drive it no more so i want ahead and call a tow truck to tow it back to the shop. They raise the car and drive it on the lift 1st to 5th gears all wheel are spinning like nothing wrong..please anyone can give me suggestions. is it tranny or transfer case or their installation???

Sounds like transfercase.

Please note that this recall specifically applies to DSMs with Chrysler specific Badging. While the same recall/repairs apply to Mitsubishi brand vehicles the repairs legally cannot be done at a Chrysler dealer. Please see your local Mitsubishi dealer for more information on what recalls apply to your Mitsubishi brand vehicle.

This recall applies to all 1990 through 1998 year model AWD Talons built through February 2, 1998, 1992-1994 year model Plymouth Laser RS AWD vehicles.

The transfer case on the above listed vehicles may develop an oil leak and/or have a low oil level. This may cause the wheels to lock up and result in an accident without warning.

Id call the dealer and see if your car has had the recall done to it, if not you may be getting a brand new one!
