Hey guys my name is Sam and Im new to the forum.

Ive tried to do some research and I cant find exactly what I need.

Car:

96 Spyder GS (4g64) 5pseed, all stock.

Ok had the car for a month and about a week ago my CEL came on and reads a PO400, EGR flow malfunction. My gas milage is terrible. I did put new vacuum lines on to dress it up a little, but I did them one at a time so Im fairly certain I didnt route anything wrong. I have a manual and looked it up but there really arent any pics that help me find where the EGR valve is located in the engine compartment, or how to remove it for checks. Ive looked over the solenoids and all seem fine.

Can anybody help?

Sorry guess I wasnt clear. I dont know where it is. The manual doesnt give any pics or instructions. JUst says to unbolt and remove it. I cant do that if I dont know where it is and what it looks like. Any help is appriciated.

It's on the back of the intake manifold. Kinda hard to get to it seems, but supposedly a 12mm socket, and a ratchet with a 4" extension makes it cake. I need to pull mine and clean it. There is an aluminum gasket that might need replaced once removed.

to make it easier to get to id take out the battery... i had the same code before and ended up being that one of the bolts was tightened enough

LOL! I did take the batter out and looked around back there. Must have been looking right at it and didnt even know it! But since I took my battery out the code erased, until it shows up again. Got to wait till next weekend before I can get another crack at it.

BTW with the code erased and CEL not on my gas mileage returned to normal. Question I have is suppose everytime the CEL for this code showed up and you just erased it by unhooking the battery. . .could that do harm to the engine? Dont want to seem like Im lazy and dont want to get dirty, just curious.

thanks for the help

It shouldn't wreak havoc on your engine or anything, but running any engine rich like that to the point of terrible gas mileage isn't fantastic. The code may be gone for now but it WILL come back (I've had 2 1g's with a similar problem). Go ahead and replace the EGR and you should be good to go.
