Hi all,
I just bought a 95 Eclipse GST and I'm just starting to do a little maintenance. Something peculiar that I saw is that it doesn't have the OEM CAS (I think that's the name), looking around it does have a CAM sensor installed, I imagine it should have a CKP that is not at first sight.
My question would be, is there a way of adjusting the timing that is not via software in this case? I haven't had the time to open the ECU to see if it has ECM link or something. It also does not connect to the ECU via obd2 with my ELM327 nor shows the OBD2 errors when turning to ignition 3 times. Any help, advice or experience with this set up would be highly appreciated, thanks!

Your engine appears to have a 2G head with a 95-96 style Cam Position Sensor, under the CAM gear. The blank plug on the other side of the cam is normal. This is the stock configuration for a 95-96 model year GST or GSX.

The base mechanical timing is fixed at the CRANK sensor lower on the timing belt side mounted on the oil pump.

This two sensor configuration is not adjustable, and does not need to be. The ECM dynamically adjusts timing under closed loop operation for idle and cruse. For Wide Open Throttle tuning (open loop), the timing table is in the ECM, and with ECM Link or stand alone ECM, you adjust the timing in the software. Stock ECM timing tables are not adjustable.

Thanks for the explanation!
To make sure timing is correct I would only need to make sure that all timing marks line up, right?

CAS is cam sensor. (Cam Angle Sensor). They're just in different places depending on year and none of the 2g cars have adjustable timing. 1g use the same sensor for cam and crank (or just cam depending on how you look at it). 2g use a cam sensor and a crank sensor mounted on the oil pump housing
