I just got my 1G eclipse painted about a week ago and I was wondering how long I should wait till I wax it.

The painter probably should have told you before you left the shop, I would give it about 2 months and then give her a full wax job.

Apparently there is no definite answer to this question. I say 3-4 weeks is plenty long. I painted my car myself (with lots of painting experience) and I waited an entire 3 days due to the harsh conditions I would soon be subjecting the new paint to. I used "Butterwax" (highly recommended), and the paint looks absolutely beautiful with a deep, deep shine, even 1 year later. So obviously waxing it after just 3 days did no harm.

I would say 3 - 4 weeks to be safe though. 3 days is fine though. 3 months is fine too. So you choose! ;)

:dsm: Ya, I know I should have asked the guy who painted my car, but you guys know how it is. I was all excited and never thought to ask him. Anyways thanks for all the input. I'll wait about 4 weeks before I wax. THANKS :D

This is as much of an opinion as anything else it all really depends on if the car sits in a garage all day or if it sits in your driveway in direct sunlight. The sunlight will "bake" the finish much faster which will allow you to wax it sooner but if it sits in your garage in the shade then it will take much longer, that is why there is so many different answers to the question because it all depends on what the car is exposed to and how often and most body shops want to make sure that there is no chance that you will come back complaining so they will tell you the maximum amount of time.

This man speaks truth. :thumb:

Right know it's sitting in my driveway so hopefully it will bake the paint quick. But I'm in no big rush to wax the car.

Usually it takes about a month for the paint to cure. I had some questions earlier on this, do a search with paint and me as author.

I used the sunlight method

I had a carport which pretty much shaded the car all day, so before I went to work in the morning I'd pull down the driveway on a nice hot sunny day and let it back while I went to work all day, and then pulled it in at night.

This might seem crazy, but it worked a lot faster than if I had just let it sit in the shade.

Seems to have paid off, finish is great and wax applies nicely.
