:talon: My 95 talon tsi still smokes a lite grayish blue smoke only after turbo spool or hard acceleration..there isnt any smoke in the intercooler piping and after checkin the boost lines there arent any leaks. I replaced the pcv valve and the plugs but it still smokes and it smells strong of gas. It does not smoke when its idling or when im drivin around casually. any ideas??

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but i'm seeing similar symptoms with my car. Light smoke (blueish) under boost. My compression is 195-200 accross the board. Would this leave me with turbo seals?

Clean up the oil (if any) in the compressor outlet and LICP inlet, put it back together and do a couple of full throttle pulls. Check again at those locations for new oil. If you've got your VC breather still feeding back into the intake pipe, disconnect it and cap the intake pipe nipple when you do the test runs. If you find new oil in the compressor outlet or LICP inlet, oil is leaking from the center section, and your turbo has seal problems.

I imagine that you could be leaking into the turbine housing but not the compressor housing, but I don't know an easy way to check for this without pulling the turbine housing off of the ex. mani and checking for oil in the O2 housing that isn't in the mani collector. Anyone know a slick way to check this?

Also, check for in/out shaft play or excessive side/side shaft play on the cold side. I get the impression that you can have bad seals and normal bearings and vice versa, but that would give you a heads up on a turbo problem.

White smoke is coolant...you not having that problem
Bluish smoke is oil burning somewhere, it could possibly be your piston rings...Thats what mine was
and grey smoke is gas...You could be running rich and to fix that you can get a SAFC but do the oil stuff before you do that.

had a friend look at it closer today and he said it will come out in a quick greyish puff everyonce and a while. I've got the link, so i'll take it out and dial in the injectors.
Thanks Nick

my 1g used to smoke and stuff until i changed the turbo and put upper intercooler piping on. maybe its the turbo ?

Did some tests..discovered that my head gasket is leaking around the cylinders not the exterior of the gasket. The ecu made adjustments to compromise the lack of air/fuel mixture by adding more gas hence the gas smell in the exhaust. So i'll be replacing the head gasket with a cometic head gasket and re-adjusting the air/fuel ratio.
