So I hooked up all the vacuum lines and turned it over. She sounds mean as hell! Here's when the problems kick in. The car can't remain at idle, it will die. You have to start the car and immediately give it gas and keep it reved a little bit in order to run. So we raised the idle and now a different problem arises. I drop the car into first gear around 25k and POP flames out of the exhaust. Car is running rich? Also the stock boost guage reads full boost at low RPMS. I do have a aftermarket boost guage (should I install that Immediately in order for accuracy to help solve the problem?) Alsobefore we raised the Idle on the car it seemed to be booging down like it was starving for fuel. How could this be?

This car was Dead for 7 months and I brought back to life. I bought it that way and the uogrades on the car as of follows.

1) Big16g with ported manifold
2) 3in Exhuast with 3in test pipe
3) Ebay FMIC with polished hard piping flanged for a 1g BOV
4) Turbo XS RFL BOV
5) Plugs and Wires
6)Aftermarket Air Filter

I am currently venting the BOV into the atmosphere. I know I need the MAF and MAFT installed inisde a custom UIP in order to vent properly. I bought the BOV before I registered on the website, did some research and found out I needed it BUT I don't think that would cause all these problems! I am going to try to get a 1g BOV today and install it but any other problem solving suggestions?

For the record I am running Stock fuel system such as injectors (450's), fuel line and rail and pump as well.

wow. first off you NEED that boost gauge installed NOW. you cannot rely on the stock boost gauge to be accurate as it is not mechanical, it never actually reads vacuum/pressure, it just assumes based on throttle position/rpms what the boost should be.

how would you even know if you were spiking to say, 25 psi with the stock boost gauge?

second, is the car tuned at all? invest in a safc/logger or dsmlink/logger. you need to monitor what's going on inside that engine of yours and be able to do something about it.

third, yes the car is running very rich apparently, like i said above ^^ you need to tune her

well if i remember correctly you should be running 550 injectors with that big 16g, least its recommended... ###### not your problem but just trying to contribute.

I have the hole plugged in the intake! I thought you didn't need a logger until you upgraded your injectors?

Boost guage will be installed tomorrow. I think the MAF is dead. We plugged it in and unplugged it, it still ran like POOP! HELP ME!

DSMWISEMEN!

no a logger is not only needed when you get larger injectors. a logger will, well... log everything you need to know that is going on in your engine (ie. knock at xxxx rpm) this is necessary for tuning, and is a wise choice if you have issues that way you can see where you're having troubles

Revving the motor to 25k (25,000) to go into first gear is a little high. :sneaky: (J/K) Have you had the timing belt off? It could be out of time by a tooth . Just a thought. Also a logger is one of the first things to invest in in my opinion. Good luck

I'm thinking timing also.

I'm thinking timing also. Won't excessive valve overlap cause poor idling and potentially ignition of unburnt fuel in exhaust? Wisemen?

Well we were busy at the shop, so I couldn't really take a look at her. But also they were thinking the same with the timing and tooth. I just got a phone call from them saying to get a new MAF and to check the fuses first thing in the mourning b/c none of the 02 sensors are working! WIll do the all of the above!

I thought there is no need for a SAFC due to the fact that there is no boost controller and my injectors are stock?

You will need an SAFC because the EVO3 flows more cfm than the T25 thus, making your fuel lean out. I am farely sure that is right but anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

I also recommend buying a boost controller either mbc or ebc!

Did a boost leak test...WOAH, for got to re connect one of the pipes! Cars runs alot better, pulls ahrder put still fires like a civil war cannon followed cloud a black smoke!

New problem, the WASTEGATE is jammed. How is this so, I bought the turbo BRAND NEW from turbochargers.com! Is there anyway to try to fix this without trying dismantle and send it back? We know the wastegate is jammed due to the fact we disconnected the hose from the intake and tryied to activate the wastegate and the rod didn't move. Also, when we take the cap off the intake (due to the fact I am running the RFL BOV) the car runs (which in reality it shouldn't!)

We were thnking about the Boost controller today. I thought I wouldn't need one due to the fact the car is pre-programmed to run at stock boost 11-12psi. But now, I hae the HUGE EBAY FMIC so maybe boost would need ot be turned up a lil bit more to compensate for the piping and size of the intercooler?

At this point a logger is more important than a SAFC. The SAFC is to compensate for changing injectors, not turbos. The maf sensor will see more air coming in and add fuel to compensate. With stock injectors the SAFC is not neccesary. But when upgrading the turbo I would suggest bigger injectors and a SAFC, or some other tuning device.

Car is good, I take it home tomorrow. In the diagram at the shop, it said to run a vacuum line from the wastegate actuator to something else, but It was really suppose to be T'd into the vacuum line running from the BOV to the manifold!

Thanks for everything! Will leave feedback for those tomorrow!
