Car running bad, not starting good

Hey guys!

Please give this girl a hand and put your thinking caps on I have no idea where to look with this problem.
The last few days my car didn't start really well.. when I started the car the rpm's where really low and it made a wobbely sound. But when I touched the gas the car started running good and I had no further problems for the rest of the drive.
But this morning the rpm's kept low even when I touch the gas the rpm's don't go up so much and the wobbely sounds stays and the car doesn't really start through like it did the last few days.
Any idea where to look?

How low did the rpm's drop?

Sounds like it could be related to the ignition, things to check would be spark plugs, wires, and if those check out look at the transistor unit and coils.

I forgot to mention it's a 1G turbo.
I already changed the spark plugs and the cables are only 6 months old.
The rpm's dropped to about 400, they are stable.

When I get home later today I'll heck the cables just to be sure, and then the rest of the ignition

I saw that by your profile The ignition systems are identical on most 1g's, except some of the earlier ones were distributed.

Does it feel like the car is running on two cylinders?

The coils, transistor unit, and Cam Angle Sensor all play a part in the correct RPM and ignition timing. If one of those is bad, the rpm will show half (Normal idle ~ 800 , tach showing 400) check my thread out and see if your having similar issues or something completely different. I'm thinking mine was the coil shorting out from all the oil and grease on it.

Also a boost/vacuum leak depending on the location would cause more air than what is measured to enter the intake, which generally causes high idle, but can cause low idle and a "boggy" like feel.


If nothing like the symptoms I'm having, and you are leak free, I'd look into fuel related items - fuel filter, clean injectors, correct fuel pressure.

After checking the ECU did give code 44 for bad coil or transistor. When it started it stalled and I noticed that cylinder 2 and 3 were out.
I measured the resistance of the coil, that looked fine. Spark plugs and wires look fine to me too.
So, I'm still searching for the root cause

I still wonder why this only happens on cold starts.. that seems so weird.

I ruled out the coil, it measured out fine, I cleaned it up and put it back in the car.
The transistor is measured out fine too.

So I really don't know what the other options are. The ECU keeps telling me code 44 but coil and transistor are fine..

any ideas.. anyone..?

ALRIGHT! Located the problem. It's the transistor connector, a wire broke
