Hello everyone, I'm new to the Mitsubishi world as I just got a 1995 Eclipse GS-T a couple days ago. I am very excited about it, but it is having a few problems. My idle is very rough, "idle surge" I believe, and my IAC is not passing the test. My readings are 36.5/35.6/35.6/0.00. These were my readings on each of my three testing trials. Now, not only is my car idleing horribly, but it tends to die at stops, even though the idle is jumping between 1000-2000, should this be happening? That is problem one. Problem two would be that my acceleration is horrible, not something I expected out of a GS-T, so I'm thinking there must be a problem with it also. Could this be a result of such a bad idle also? Some mechanic was telling me that he "believes" that my timing is off, maybe the belt skipped a tooth, which threw off my cam, does this sound right? I'm skeptical because at higher speeds the car runs great, I think he just wants a few hours to take the timing cover off and look at it. Now, I know I'm a Newbie, and I'm gonna hear, use the "search" button, this topic has been discussed many times, and I have, that's where I learned how to test the IAC/ICS, but I just wanted answers to my specific questions. Thanks everyone

use the search button you newbie !

haha no as far as car running like crap, did you first try all the simple stuf ? Change plugs/wires ? maybe even fuel filter. As far as the jumped tooth, i mean i guess you could just check ti for yourself.
there has to be something here that can help you.

I was under the impression that dsm's used the biss screw in the tb to control air. An idle air control valve is mostly found on fords and such but I dont think we have em. Check everything out like the above guy said and if that fails run pids/datalogger and go from there.

BISS screw is good, and so is the o-ring. I'm going to order the IAC tomorrow, hopefully get it this week, and put that on. I'm hoping this solves the problem. I'm also taking the ECU in tomorrow, to have the capacitors replaced, heard they tend to go bad after about 7 years, so I'll have them replaced. It has been making noises when my car stalls, a noise like a basketball buzzer going off for a short period of time back to back. Smells funny too sometimes, which I also read is not a good sign, go figure. I am however wondering if maybe my throttle body is bad because it is running so rich. Maybe it had a rough idle before, because of the IAC, and the guy dumped a bunch of carb cleaner into it and messed it up? I really don't know, I've got about a grand to play with, so hopefully it doesn't take any more than that to take car of my problem.
