ok ive got a 91 talon awd and it wont start. its got spark, fuel, ecu is good, cranks over, timing belt not broken. i dont know what it could be. going to do a compression test soon. what else should i check? any input will help.thanks

I'm assuming your motor turns, so its not the starter system.
Moving on to the fuel system, how do you know your getting fuel? Did you remove one end of the fuel rail and crank it just to be 100% sure?
Moving on to the spark system, how did you check for spark? Did you point an open sparkplug to a ground to see if there is a spark jump?
If that all checks out then it has to be the ECU or timing related. If you've already tried replacing the ECU with a working one, perhaps your CAS needs to be swapped.

make sure your temp sensor is plugged in. My brothers had the same problem we finally plugged in the temp sensor on the water neck and it fired right up first shot. goos luck

hey thanks for the replies. is there a way i can test my cas? would it do this if maybe it jumped a couple teeth?
how it happend was ive got a pk problem, or i think, and while driving down the road my knock jumps up to 43 every time i touch the gas. now ive had this problem for like two years now and usually when it happens i just push the clutch in and rev it a few times and it goes away. this time it just kept doing it whenever i pushed the gas so i just kept crusing while at 43, i know dumb but its so damn frustrating. then the car shuts off and i coast to the side of the road. try to start it and it just cranks . so what do you guys think?

I have EXACTLY the same problem with my car. Here, check this link and see if you get a bum ECU code like me (assuming you have a 1g)

Oh, and I did a modification to the LED required, I bought some CHEAP X-Mas LED lights and clipped one off, worked like a charm. Try that OBDI reader but REMEMBER the resistor.

I bought a new AEM EMS to replace the stock ECU and I get fuel, spark and my timing marks are lined up but its either or with the EMS or the ECU, fuel, spark, marks are lined up and it just won't turn over. I wonder if its something else like a relay, fuse, resistor something that I overlooked and I hope to hear your progress so It may help me as well.

How do you know your ecu is dead?? I just had the same thing happen to me and the ecu was fried. Sean

Well, I plugged in my code reader and got back a code for ECU error ( constantly on) and my full story is in another thread BUT here is the jist. My ECU had a fire ( smoke flames ect) cause I was using my spare ECU cause my Eprommed one stopped working. I plugged my Eprommed one back in, didn't start. I let it sit for a few days and it barely turned over. Got it home and it has sat idle since not able to turn over.

If you have not got it figured out, then I would suggest checking your MPI fuse. It is located in a bundle of 3 large fuses on the positive battery cable. It is a 20amp and is usually blue. If its blown then I am 95% sure that is your problem. If not then it might be your CAS. I believe it tells you how to test it in a Manual.

My bad ECU did this with a cap that was ready to blow. If there is a clicking sound, thats the MPI relay tripping. I ahd the same problem, swapped ECU's everything was great until this current ECU cut out.

yeah ive got gas and the mpi relay is good. ecu works and is running in my 92 now. i guess ill try testing the cas, and check the compression for the hell of it.

one question i have about that is i have never done it before. if the car hasent run for a while and isnt warm will the numbers be accurate?
