Pretty much as stated above...tried to start the car...turned over very slowly....do u think i need a new battery, starter? thanx

see what the voltage coming off the battery is...

how long has it been since the battey as replaced?

my car didi the same thing today , it was 9 degrees out and "chuged" slowly but did start 14. something volts i let it warm up for 10 minutes then it drives great adn starts great after and even when the motor is still kinda warm. :thumb:

the guy i bought it off of said the battery was replaced before i bought it so im guesing it's new...i gotta find my voltmeter and check it....it seems that my lights dim when my front fans turn on too...somethings not changing something

I agree, but you should get the battery tested anyway just to be sure. BTW, how cold was it exactly? If it was below 0 degrees and it still started, albeit slowly, I'd say the battery is plenty strong. What kind of battery is it? Hopefully not Pep Boys :thumbdown Prostart  And what's the CCA rating on it?

is there a way to help it out?? i mean can i replace something to help this out or is this normal for the car to turn over very slowly?

Sunday it was officially -1F in town, and I was out in the country to the north in strong winds. 800 amps was barely enough to start the car (it was cranking so slow I can't believe it started) :) If I still had a stock sized battery, I wouldn't have been able to get the car running. Might have been better to NOT start it. The fuel and PS pumps were both screaming for about 20 seconds after starting. Trans felt like it was full of glue, etc.

Try a new starter. I know when I installed a new one it was like night and day. You can tell when the starter is going out as it wont crank out as much torque.

Any battery wether an optima or some hardcore deep cycle battery will lose 60% of its capacity when at really really cold temps. If your seriously seeing temps that low then its time to get a battery blanket or something to warm up the engine bay
