1G Can't figure out what these two plugs are for?

Lower one is the engine speed adjustment connector. The ignition timing adjustment connector is a 2-pin with only one wire, yellow with red stripe.

The other I’d guess at being for the EGR Solenoid. Two wires: one red and the other brown with white stripe. The location matches for a 2.0L non-turbo.

Okie dokie that makes sense with the way my car is running especially upon startup and idling, and most significantly while driving it seems way slower than what it should be these have been disconnected since I bought the car last Friday.

Okay this top one says O.D and looks like somebody filled the holes with some sort of gunk? And then the lower one I can't find what it would plug into?

The engine speed adjustment connector is for diagnostic purposes. It does not plug into anything.

That’s likely (old) dielectric grease in the two-pin plug. It may not connect to anything, depends on if your car was made for California or Federal emissions. If Cali, it would plug into a solenoid that looks like it should be mounted on the firewall. If Federal, nothing.

And to come full circle, neither being unplugged is going to affect how the car runs or idles. Does the check engine light stay on after starting the car? Have you checked compression and verified mechanical timing?
