Need help. I am hoping to find the answer with out taking my car to a trained mechanic who gets payed more than i can afford to give...
The car cranks up fine but once it is running it begins to struggle to keep and idle....once the engine warms up it seems to be fine. I tried driving it before it was warm but it will just begin to shake violently....so once is enough of that i need anyones advice. thanks

Temp sensor is prob gone. (or check the connection to the sensor-which is the device in the T-stat housing with the two wires coming out of it..) When this sensor goes faulty, it's telling the ECU that the water temp is around the 177* for a normal operation temperature and allows for proper idle.

What the temp sensor does is tell the ECU what temp the water is to compensate for idle position - why when the water is cold, the idle is higher due to the sensor is telling the ECU that we need to run the motor up to get the water at operation temperature.

But, if that sensor starts to fail, you will have probs with idle until the water warms up for the faulty sensor won't read the temp cold but at a reading close to 100* before things settle down and you have your idle back to normal.

If you're electronically bent, unplug the plug from the sensor and put a 5Kohm resistor across the connections in the plug. This tells the ECU that the water is close to freezing and doing this little test will see if your idle runs up when you hit the key or not.

Good luck - DSM
